My ‘Sunny’ Secondhand Find
Earlier this summer, a friend of mine shared about a nearby consignment store called Sunny & Olive Co, a size- and gender-inclusive consignment store housed on two floors of fun in Milton, Wisconsin.
We each brought in a load of clothes to consign and then stayed for a couple of hours to browse all the racks, have an impromptu fashion show for each other, and leave with some goodies.
We quickly planned another trip, which coincided nicely with the credit we had accrued from our first trip, and I happened to find a few fun things, including the bright Farm Rio top featured in this post.
With summer officially ending, I wanted one last blast with this top before it gets too cold to wear something like it. Here’s how it looked when I tried it on in the store, and here’s how I styled it for an end-of-summer look.
How This Farm Rio Top Looked in the Store
My visit to Sunny & Olive yielded a lot of colorful items to try on. While I did find this Farm Rio top, there was another similar top that I consider to be its “business sister.” It’s just slightly more refined, and I think it will be easier to transition during the colder months with the addition of a cardigan or denim jacket.
But for this Farm Rio top, I was kind of intimidated by it and almost put it back. The sleeves were so big, and I thought it might overwhelm me. Then I remembered that I’m the outfit repeater and thrive in outfits that have a little whimsy – and what could be more whimsical than this top?!
I could dress it down with some jeans or dress it up like I did in this post!
How I Styled This Secondhand Farm Rio Top
After getting over my outfit imposter syndrome, I styled this Farm Rio top with equally loud (and thrifted) teal palazzo pants. Would you believe I almost left these teal palazzo pants behind at Goodwill many years ago?! The waist was a little big, and I didn’t have the capacity to fix it (especially since the back is all elastic!), but then I decided it wasn’t a total deal breaker – you’d rather have pants be a bit too big than too small, right?
All in all, this is an outfit of pieces that I almost didn’t buy. That’d be so sad because everything looks so good together! It really feels like a “me” outfit!
The earrings and handbag are also previous thrift finds, but luckily, they were ones I was sure of buying on the first grab. How often do you find the perfect woven handbag a la Sophia from Golden Girls? Or blue tassel earrings?!
