What I Wore This Summer
I am so behind on sharing non-work outfits with you all on this blog! However, I’ve tried my best to keep up with posting them on my socials.
There’s been a lot of fun stuff that has kept me busy, as well as my usual string of symptoms from having an invisible illness that have kept me in bed and too foggy to think about content creation.
But now that we’re nearing the end of summer, I thought it was a good time to look back at what I wore to beat the heat, where I got my outfit inspo from, and what I loved wearing the most.
If we live in opposite climates, maybe this will inspire your next upcoming season! Or my friends in the western hemisphere can save it for next year!
So let’s rewind….
Where I Got Summer Outfit Inspiration
Each summer always feels like a blur because of my chronic fatigue. I wanted to gently challenge myself to be intentional and create memorable outfits to match all of the activities and events I had going on this year.
I used my digital closet app, Whering, to help make looks, as well as a new app, Dressed, that I’ll be sharing more about in the next couple of weeks.
Having my closet in the palm of my hands makes it super simple to plan ahead when I’m literally lying in bed. I can see what I have, mix and match new looks, and be smart about when to repeat pieces.
I put a big focus on warm-weather-specific pieces, which meant avoiding jeans, long pants, and graphic tees, since I can always wear those in other seasons. This resulted in maximizing all of the fun gaucho shorts, colorful tank tops, and lightweight rainbow pieces that I own.
Overalls and Jumpsuits For Summer
Nothing says “sick but stylish” more than a one-and-done piece like overalls or a jumpsuit. They require minimal matching (just a top underneath or a sweater on top) and can be accessorized in multiple ways to help you feel confident and cute.
I can almost guarantee I have taken a nap in all of these looks!
Dresses For Summer
What’s even easier than a jumpsuit? A dress! They truly are the throw-and-go of the fashion world. Even less matching—you just have to have enough ambition to put on your shoes, and you’re all set!
“Party Pants” For Summer
If you asked me what my favorite thing in my closet was right now, I would say “party pants.” To me, the definition of party pants is loose, flowy, wide-leg bottoms in a bright color or funky pattern.
The main ones I’ve been repeating were thrifted at the beginning of the summer. If they were full length, then you’d probably see me rocking them in the middle of winter. lol
Gaucho Shorts for Summer
I never would have imagined that I would be rocking gaucho shorts past church camp as a kid. As an adult, I have reclaimed these wide-leg capris and try my best to redeem the fashion choices I made in my youth.
Gaucho shorts are fun to pair with really anything. They go well with a tank top, a simple tee, or one of my more special tops.
Colorful Styles for Summer
To bring this whole post full circle, here’s a handful of pieces that I consider to be the most “summery” and that I would have a hard time wearing in the winter. (Though, don’t be surprised if I repeat that sparkly bird tunic with a cozy cardigan this fall!)
To Summer-ize This Post
I think this is a pretty good overview of what I’ve been wearing all season. As much fun as I am having with my summer clothes—and there are still a few pieces I’m trying to work into outfits—I am excited for fall fashion! Who isn’t?!
I’ve recently thrifted some awesome sweaters that I can’t wait to debut in real life and online. They’re already in my Whering closet if you want to try your hand at styling them for me for the upcoming season!
Thank you, as always, for your patience and kindness! Hopefully, it won’t take as long next time to see more outfits pop up on here. If you have any specific fashion challenges or outfits you want me to try, I am always open to hearing your ideas in the comments!
