  • Colorful Fall Thrifted Capsule Wardrobe: 10 pcs, 25+ Outfit Ideas

colorful graphic fall thrifted capsule wardrobe with 10 itemsColorful Fall Thrifted Capsule Wardrobe

You don’t need more clothes, you just need to get creative with what you have!

I love putting together these types of posts, demonstrating the power of a capsule wardrobe.

For so long, capsule wardrobes have been synonymous with minimalism and kind of boring. (I also don’t know how relevant they are anymore but I have my reasons for this post!)

I can promise that there is no boring here! I believe it’s possible to have a limited wardrobe but to make it exciting.

For my third installment of a colorful capsule wardrobe (see: summer capsule wardrobe and my winter capsule wardrobe) I decided to tackle fall, which is arguably the most vibrant of all seasons. Plus we’re all probably yearning for some layering after a hot summer!

I asked on my Instagram if this is something you wanted to see and it was a resounding YES! I’m so glad that I can make this happen and share my vision for a small and colorful wardrobe with you.

If you’re curious how it went, keep scrolling for some epic outfit inspiration!

The Importance of a Capsule Wardrobe

As I mentioned above, I do have a reason to try to keep this capsule wardrobe trend thing going.

We’re definitely living in an interesting time where consumerism and interest in sustainability are colliding. There’s really not a perfect solution or one-size-fits-all choice for everyone. We’re all on our own journeys with fashion and consumption.

But one way to meet in the middle is to be conscious of the items you’re buying. A capsule wardrobe – whether it’s 30 pieces or your entire closet – can be a carefully curated selection of clothes that all mingle together.

I hope that you’re inspired by this post and can see the benefit of buying clothes that can be re-worn a million different ways. (Maybe not a million, unless you get crafty. 🤣)

    Creating a Thrifted Capsule Wardrobe

Choosing pieces for a capsule wardrobe is one of my favorite things. Some tips to keep in mind when building your own are:

    • How many pieces do you need? (Alternatively: how long do you want to do it so you know how many clothes you need?)
    • What color story are you using?
    • Is there a theme or common thread you’re aiming for?

My answer to those questions are:  10 pieces for 1 week, I Googled a random color story, and my theme was thrifted and Fall!

Using this equation, you can come up with a capsule wardrobe for fun or financial purposes, or even use it when packing for a trip!

    My Thrifted Capsule Wardrobe Pieces

With the number 10 in mind and a color story picked out, I went through my closet and chose clothes that fit the bill.

They are: little orange dress, orange tee, yellow tee, white turtleneck, leopard print pullover sweater, baby blue cardigan, cognac moto jacket, maroon jeggings, leopard print skirt, and burnt orange palazzo pants. (If I did it all over again, I’d swap out the orange tee for a graphic tee. I think it would have expressed my personal style a smidge better.)

I didn’t have any restrictions on accessories but I did seem to pull the same ones again and again. Lots of slouchy hats, neck scarves, and low-heeled booties.

Wearing My Thrifted Fall Capsule Wardrobe

Next came the really fun part – I hung up all the pieces together and let my imagination run wild! In total, I came up with 28 outfits and I’m very satisfied with that number. Let me know what you think of the looks!

    ///

    👗 WHAT I’M WEARING 💄
❤️ All pieces are thrifted except the jeggings, shoes, oversized scarf, and slouchy hats. ❤️

    Capsule Wardrobe Recap

Once again, I just want to say how fun this was! Everybody should try this at least once as a creative exercise.

And just like at the end of a trip, I was SO happy to be reunited with my full closet again. This way of getting dressed definitely works for me shorterm and helps eliminate a lot of the brain fog/decision fatigue related to my health issues, but I wouldn’t want to do it forever.

Fall is in full swing and I’m sure you’ve all got a milelong bucket list of activities to fulfill!

    Me? Not so much.

I’m continuing to take it easy this season and have converted an “activities” list into an outfit list. That’s what a fashion girl does, right?

To really top it off, I created a mini pumpkin patch in my own backyard so I can fulfill my outfit fantasies in a seasonally appropriate setting! * extra and I know it *

So whether you’re hitting up an apple farm or Netflix and chillin’ with a scary movie, maybe one of my outfits will spark an idea for you!

    Color-fall Jeans & Sweater

Fall is really a beautiful season because of the changing colors. I like to switch out summer pieces for fall but keep one thing – COLOR! The shades and hues just change a little bit.

Yellow still remains one of my faves so I paired up this bright sweater with dark olive skinny jeans. To keep it somewhat cohesive, I chose a neck scarf that ties both colors together and a matching yellow beret.

This is seriously one of my most favorite outfits in a long time!

    👗 WHAT I’M WEARING 💄

    Girl Bossin’ In Orange Pants

If you missed my last blog post with a big announcement, I’m employed in the fashion industry again. It’s such an exciting time to jump back in!

So I wore my “girl boss” graphic t-shirt (I’m loving all the satire surrounding the phrase on TikTok!) and tried something different with a white moto jacket. I’m digging the monotone vibe!

Then I (pumpkin) spiced it up with my faaaavorite orange palazzo pants. Altogether it’s kind of a cool, quirky fall look.

    👗 WHAT I’M WEARING 💄
Thrifted/thredUP moto jacket and orange pants, bought w/ store credit | Thrifted tee, $1.50 | Outlet store white booties, $20

A Sweatshirt That Is SO GOOD

I’ve already worn this outfit for quite a few events like shopping, a quick stop at a corn maze, and sitting around my house.

The sweatshirt is a classic, comfy piece and I wore it with yellow pants to kick it up a notch. I think that helps it from being an ordinary top + jeans look.

    👗 WHAT I’M WEARING 💄
Thrifted sweatshirt and sneakers, $7 total | Old Maurices yellow jeggings, $?

    Pumpkins & Polka Dots

I know I’ve used the word “favorite” quite loosely in this post and it’s honestly a pet peeve of mine… but this babydoll dress is my FAVORITE baby doll dress! There, I said it.

It was easy to style with some knock-off Doc Martens and a pork pie hat. It’s a very classic “me” outfit and I couldn’t have felt more comfortable to be wearing it!

    👗 WHAT I’M WEARING 💄

    What Will I Wear Next?

    Which outfit was your favorite?

If you’re anything like me (a very sleepy spoonie!) maybe I can make this “outfit bucket list” a tradition. Rather than choosing to go places every season, I’ll just dream about what I want to wear! What do you think?

9 Fall Fashion Trends To Try From Maurices cover imageFall Fashion 2021

Who else is excited for fall fashion this year?!

Whether you’re going back to school, back to work, or are just a fall fashion enthusiast; I think everyone can appreciate the newest trends now arriving at Maurices.

I recently stopped into my local Maurices store (where I used to work!) and got to check everything out in person. One thing lead to another and… I’ve been hired as the store’s social media content creator!

My unofficial initiation (#unpaid) was to create some fun short-form videos for social media that showed off back-to-school style for teachers. While the clothes were in my possession, I had a little fun playing dress-up and created a bunch of extra outfits to show y’all the versatility of each piece.

Maurices is full of affordable basics and on-trend items that can fill in your wardrobe and still leave room for your thrifted capes and favorite secondhand scarf! (Click here to learn more about mixing current trends with thrifted finds.)

I’m so elated to share this news with you and be immersed in the fashion industry once again. Even if it’s just a few hours a week while I’m working at home in my PJs! Follow along to see what we’re up to 👉 Facebook | Instagram

A Boho Blouse Worn 3 Ways

I was totally drawn to this brightly colored boho-style top with its bishop sleeves and keyhole neckline.

While it’s a trend on its own, I paired it with some brand new Edgely denim (on the left). They’re a buttery soft material with a 360 stretch but are still totally jeans! Maurices always seem to outdo themselves with comfortable denim. I highly recommend giving them a try!

    [irp]

Floral For Fall Because Anything Goes

One look on my website and you’ll realize I really love pink. It’s everywhere!

So of course I was happy to see it trending in the stores, alongside floral. After the year we’ve had with Covid, why not wear pieces traditionally seen as spring trends in the fall? Anything goes at this point!

I paired up these colors with more color in the form of brown jeans. I will never say no to colored denim!

    More Trends To Try

The last few items I picked up were a graphic tee (don’t sleep on their vintage-inspired band tees!), a pair of classic dark wash skinny jeans, and the quintessential oversized plaid button-up.

    Take It or Leaf It?

What was your favorite outfit from this post? What fall trends are you going to try?

Needless to say, this was not my summer.

After 12 years with stomach issues and 3 years with chronic fatigue, I’m still finding out new things about myself everyday.

This summer was like one I’d never had before, full of days and weeks stuck in bed with heavy fatigue and brain fog. After months of intense symptoms and doctor appointments, I’m only emerging back into a “human-like” state because the weather has cooled down.

    Forever In Blue

maurices stylist spring work outfits trends 2019 may hannah rupp wisconsin fashion

I failed to outfit plan this week so everything in this post was just winging it!

We’ve been selling lots of dresses (and shorts!) for upcoming summer events so I was inspired to create a look that I might wear on a picnic date or to a family reunion. In any case, I’ll be comfy eating lots of food in this dress!

We just marked down a very similar one to clearance so if you like it, check your local store to recreate this look on a budget.

    Flower Power

A kimono is always my go-to when I don’t know what to wear! I especially like this floral one because there are lots of colors to try and match. For this shift, I pulled the coral (still a hot color this year!) and went simple on the bottom with jeggings and my trusty white sandals.

To make this look something different than what I’d wear everyday, I added a halter-style bralette so the pretty straps were visible which helped to add interest.

    The Right Stripes

I really should have planned my outfits because this day ended up being much hotter than I expected and I was roasting. Lesson learned!

I had jeans & a t-shirt in mind and this striped one fit the bill! I was able to do a little color matching (same as the outfit above) and look pulled together without much thought.

This outfit was inspired from scrolling through photos Maurices had been tagged in on Instagram. I found so many stylish customers across the country rockin’ their Maurices pieces!

One look stood out so I recreated it with items from my own closet. I put my own spin on things by adding my gray flats and having a half ponytail higher than the Empire State building!

    Weekly Outfit Challenge

maurices stylist spring work outfits trends 2019 may hannah rupp wisconsin fashion

Our district-wide outfit challenge this week was to style up one of our new tops with special detailing like smocking, crochet, etc.

There were so many to choose from but ultimately I went with this polka dotted blouse. It was truly a challenge for me because while I love the cut and pattern of this top, the brown color had me stumped. Finally I came up with a theme and paired it with earthy tones for what I call a “glamping” moment. Now that’s my kind of vacation! Where would you wear it to?

    In Summer-y

I ended my long work week in a pair of shorts. The weather was gorgeous so I had to! I just added a kimono to a simple base of shorts and tee to add some interest. It worked because I got compliments all day long! Unfortunately the kimono is not from Maurices but we have lots of similar styles that are just as beautiful. Shop ’em here!

Working at Maurices has really trained my styling eye. We have an unofficial motto at Maurices that says you should only wear an outfit you’d be proud to share on social media so I’m taking that to heart by sharing my outfits that I’ve worn for my shifts this week!

While I’m not always able to document every single look, I’m going to try to share as many as I can. Hopefully this will inspire you if you also work in a creative environment.

    A Peace Of My Mind

maurices stylist outfits workwear midwest spring trends hannah rupp

My Earth Week started off with this hippie-inspired look. (Do you see a theme forming?)

There are a lot of aspects about working in a fast fashion store that conflict with my thrifty roots and go against a sustainable lifestyle. But there’s also a happy medium!

A big part of my job is assisting customers in selecting clothes and styling outfits for them. Many express to me how they want pieces they can wear over and over again in different ways and that makes my Outfit Repeater heart happy!

Another small thing that I didn’t learn until I started working at Maurices is that our EVERflex™ jeans are actually really green! The fabric used for EVERflex™ is sustainable and helps the environment by being made with 0% gas emission and the fibers are made from 100% recycled material.

But most customers don’t know that because they just love how great EVERflex™ jeans look and feel!

I had a short work week so I didn’t take time to plan my outfits. This was thrown together with less than an hour before my shift began!

It goes back to what I was saying in the previous paragraph – having remixable pieces in your closet can make a world of difference when getting dressed. You can just throw them on and look stylish without much effort!

  • The Perfect Way To Style The Pantone Color of the Year

how to wear coral pantone color of the year 2019 outfit repeater hannah rupp maurices

    Cute in Coral

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you’ll know that Pantone named “Living Coral” the color of 2019. I am totally here for it!

This color is hot at Maurices, too, where I currently work so of course I had to pick out a piece to style! I went with this 3/4 length sleeve top from the 24/7 line. It’s a super soft shirt in the bold coral hue and the sleeve length makes it perfect to wear now and transition later into spring.

For its first wear, I paired it up with another favorite Maurices item – colored jeggings. This dusty olive green color is also new for spring and I love the way it looks with coral. A little unexpected but oh so perfect! And my scarf, originally bought in the fall, really helps tie both colors together.

I can’t wait to wear this coral shirt again with other colors! How would you style it?

    Sweater Weather

One of my favorite cold weather clothing must-haves is a turtleneck. If you tend to shy away from turtlenecks because you’re not sure how to style them, I’m here to share with you 3 unique looks that will spark your creativity!

    Feelin’ Festive

This is the exact look I wore for Thanksgiving.. and then a few times after because I loved the combination.

A turtleneck looks just as chic with a skirt as it does a pair of pants! Keeping that in mind really expands your styling options.

Look, another skirt! This time, I played with the juxtaposition of a “dowdy” turtleneck and edgy pieces like a moto jacket and flat black boots. I think the mix is really cool!

    Covered Up

A great way to keep your spirits up in the winter is to wear lots of color. I dressed up my thrifted plain white turtleneck and jeans with a pink coat and green scarf. It’s an easy way to add some interest to an otherwise simple outfit!

  • 3 Faux Fur Vest Outfit Ideas

3 Faux Fur Vest Outfit Ideas

    In-vestment Piece

This is a faux fur vest but these outfits are the real deal!

After dreaming of owning a faux fur vest for many years, I finally had an excuse to purchase one when the Maurices clothing store that I work at had a “vest” theme day.

I instantly fell in love and it fit seamlessly in my closet. Here’s some styling ideas in case you own one or are thinking about purchasing one. Keep scrolling to find out which outfits take the place as my favorite!

    [su_note note_color=”#FFFFFF” text_color=”#000000″ radius=”9″ class=””]

HOT TIP: My faux fur vest is currently sold out on Maurices.com. However, there are many dupes on the Poshmark app. Sign up using code “hannahrupp” for a $5 credit![/su_note]

    Work It

Here is what I wore for working my shift at Maurices. While a few of us stylists own this vest, none of us have worn it exactly the same way which I think is awesome and a testament to personal style.

I matched it up here with a pair of dark wash jeggings, booties in a similar tone, and a maroon blouse to match my lipstick. I felt very chic!

    Marooned

Sometimes all your outfit needs is a pop color. I used the trick from the outfit above and matched my lipstick to my tights, while keeping everything else neutral. I could see this outfit being great at a holiday party or for a get together with friends!

    Faux Real

This outfit is my favorite! I love the way the olive colored tunic contrasts with the light brown fur. It’s a fabulous combination! To complete the look I also added my trusty pork pie hat from ASOS, a gifted necklace, and the most buttery soft Forever 21 liquid leggings.

I searched high and low for the perfect faux leather-style leggings and these ones fit the bill. Stretchy, high rise, and sturdy. I can’t recommend them enough!

  • The New Gamechanger In My Closet

    The Bright Stuff

Colourful pants have been a game changer in my closet for me recently. They’ve elevated my standard jeans + a t-shirt uniform into something that reaps compliments from strangers and puts a little pep in my own step.

Here’s how I’m wearing them that will hopefully inspire you to try them out!

    ///

GRAY. Venturing into the world of colorful pants can seem daunting so I’ll ease into things with a pair of gray pants.

This look was inspired by an outfit I saw featured in one of the free catalogs that I subscribe to. Looks like they’re paying off already!

MAROON. Another easy color to incorporate into your wardrobe this winter is maroon.

While it’s technically a color, this dark red hue works really well as a neutral. I paired it up with a radical (firsthand) shirt from my closet that has some similar shades in it. It really makes the outfit something special!

WHITE. Something we all probably have in our closet, but are intimidated by, is a pair of white jeans.

You don’t have to store these away just because it’s cold outside. Ever heard of winter white? Throw these on with your favorite sweater and you’ll be set!

GOLD. Gold are for the bold. I love wearing my yellow jeans with red tops (I welcome the Winnie the Pooh jokes) but it looks just as great with a plain colored top.

Not to sound biased since I work at Maurices, but we really do have some of the best colored jeggings around. The maroon and gold pair in this post are both from the store and I haven’t found another pant that compares – thrifted or not!
