I don’t always try to match my outfit to my surroundings, but when I do, it looks something like this.
In true style blogger fashion; I saw these beautiful red leaves and instantly knew I had to take outfit photos with them in a matching ensemble. That’s how this outfit post was born. Regardless, I totally would have rocked this look for fall because I’ve dubbed this my “autumn” dress.
I bought this dress years ago after it caught my eye at a thrift store. I’ve become a lot more calculated with my thrifting purchases in recent years and probably wouldn’t buy it nowadays, but I’m glad I snatched it up when I did because it serves me well during this beautiful in-between season!
In the past I’ve worn this dress with jeans, burgundy tights, and even with with a pair of jeggings. But for today, I chose to play with it’s pattern and finally did some print mixing with it. How has it taken me so long to do that??
My scarf collection is massive but this houndstooth infinity scarf just felt right to me. You can’t go wrong with houndstooth OR an infinity scarf! At least that’s what I tell myself because I really like both things.
Lastly, I added some basics to this outfit like the black cardigan and pork pie hat so it wasn’t too overwhelming. Though I don’t know if I can claim bright yellow tights as basic??
So if you haven’t worn clashing patterns or matched your surroundings lately, then now would be a good time to take what you learned in this post and get out there and do it.
And if you’re my mom, then thanks for reading this post, mom. This was a good one to read, right?

First of all, your hair is just too cool! And those leaves are the perfect background for such a fun, colorful outfit! I really love those tights, and the print on your dress is gorgeous. 🙂
“In true style blogger fashion…” LOL! How many times have I walked by a grubby wall and thrown my camera at someone saying, “you have to take my picture in front of this thing!” Then of course, I whip out my best poses…in true style blogger fashion. But, clearly it works because that background complements your dress wonderfully.
