The Perfect Thrifted Summer Dress

The Perfect Thrifted Summer Dress

With outfits like this, summer can stay as long as it wants!

What immediately attracted me to this dress was the beautiful stripes that resembled a summer sunset. But what I didn’t like about it was the sleeve situation. They were previously tightly ruched and didn’t feel comfortable on my arms at all. After removing the elastic and ironing out the old crinkles, the sleeves are totally transformed!

It’s important to remember when you see clothes, especially at thrift stores, they can always be modified to fit your body or style. Had I not seen the potential in this dress, it would still be on the rack waiting for a different owner!

So that’s how I updated this dress, now here’s how I styled it!

I love how it felt like a modern day muumuu so I played that up with gaudy earrings, an obnoxiously bright purse, and over-the-top bug eyed sunglasses. When I do tacky, I do it right!

My footwear is the only normal thing about me. I was searching for neutral colored sandals and found these beauties on Lulu*s. Who knew a fast fashion site would cater to my large shoe size? I’m impressed!

And if you’re wondering where you might wear an outfit like this… well, I wore it to shop at garage sales though I think it’d fit in much better at a pool party or casual summer gathering.

But life’s too short to fit in, right?

Life is too short to fit in ; P

I love this dress. I’m like you, I don’t let something like taking out the elastic on sleeves scare me off. It probably looks way better now than it did originally.

You look fab! The bright colours and stripes suit your personality. Great find!

I love your dress! I’ve been practically living in dresses lately. This Summer has been so hot, I won’t even humor the idea of wearing pants. Your purse is one of my favorite colors, I have a nail polish in the exact same shade. People tend to make fun of me when I wear it, but like you said, life’s too short to fit in 😛
