  • Here’s How To Look Stylish This Fall Without Wearing a Sweater

    Quintessential Fall Fashion

Wearing another dress for fall? Groundbreaking.

This time, instead of an unseasonal maxi dress, I am wearing a floral long-sleeve number.

Our weather finally cooled off, and I got to have a quintessential fall day in the perfect autumn outfit.

For anyone still thinking inside the box that fall fashion is only about sweater weather, let me use this outfit to change your mind!

Continue reading to get my tips on how to style yourself this season without relying on a sweater. (Although sweaters for fall are great too!)

Why I Bought a Dress For Fall

Fall is a fun time to experiment in your closet, play with your layers, and try something new.

If you’re stuck in a jeans and sweater rut to chase away the chills, this outfit should inspire you to branch out and try something new!

Hannah is a white female with short brown hair. She's standing outside near a tree, smiling, wearing a blue floral dress, brown tights, brown knee high boots, and a teal beret.

My long-sleeve floral dress with a mock turtleneck has been on my thrifting wishlist for seven years! I first spotted it on ThredUp and wanted it for an event but knew it wouldn’t arrive in time.

Even though the event came and went, I never stopped thinking about this dress (or adding it to my ThredUp wishlist)!

Finally, this year, I decided to just buy the dress and live out all my fall fashion fantasies with it.

Bringing To Life My Fall Fashion Fantasy

So, what is my fall fashion fantasy? Colors that reflect the changing leaves, pieces that invoke nostalgia, like tights and boots, plus cozy elements like a thrifted beret.

This outfit checked all the boxes for me. Plus, I wore it on a beautiful fall day to walk around and support local artists in my hometown. It could not have felt more perfect!

Fall Outfits That Don’t Involve a Sweater

If you’re like me and want to try something new this fall without relying on a sweater, here are a few outfit combinations I would suggest:

    • Destructed denim and a utilitarian jacket
    • A short skirt, turtleneck, and tights… à la The Nanny!
    • A cute long-sleeve shirt and overalls
    • A flouncy blouse and non-denim pants (think palazzo pants!)
    • A dress and a chunky cardigan
    • A midi skirt, button-down, and sweater vest
    • Colored denim, a sweatshirt, and a classic camel coat

Are you feeling inspired yet? I’d love to see your fall outfits. Tag me on social media so I can check them out!

  • What I Scored on ThredUp: My Best Finds of the Year

    Best ThredUp Finds of 2024

If you love fun fashion finds, then you’re reading the right post!

It’s the end of the year, and I’m looking back at what I accomplished in my closet and how the world’s largest online consignment store, ThredUp, helped add to my personal style.

Let’s be real: I’ll never be a “zero-buy” girlie, but I am always conscious of my buys and the impact they have on my wallet and the earth. For me, thrifting isn’t just about shopping—it’s about conscious choices, personal expression, and giving clothes a second life instead of sending them to a landfill.

So, while this post might seem like a celebration of consumerism, it’s really about embracing sustainable style, experimenting with fashion, and creating a wardrobe that feels uniquely mine.

Now, let’s break down my best finds of the year and how I styled them.

    Best ThredUp Finds: Cozy Essentials

When you find a secondhand basic in good condition, you KNOW it was meant to last! Considering how often I wear my comfy favorites, it’s a wonder an oversized hoodie and cropped graphic tee could make it out of my closet in wearable condition.

It’s nice to be able to upgrade those worn-out pieces with new-to-me ones. How often do you end up replacing pieces in your closet from getting too much use? Or do you get creative with mending and upcycling?

    Best ThredUp Finds: Fancy Frocks

I love thrifting fancier pieces because I’m never sure how often they’ll get worn and want to spend modestly in case it just sits in the back of my closet, y’know?

ThredUp did not disappoint this year with a sequin duster, a blouse version of my favorite dress, and even some platform clogs from my thrifting wishlist.

Best ThredUp Finds: Pretty Little Pieces

I’m not immune to an impulse purchase, and thankfully some of my late-night shopping produced some really fun pieces from ThredUp! With the exception of the pink platform sandals that just arrived (I’m just shopping off-season for the really good deals), everything else has already gotten a few moments in the spotlight when I wore them this year.

    The Future of (Secondhand) Fashion

I can’t wait to see how these pieces continue to earn their place in my wardrobe and what new frocks I’ll discover on ThredUp in the coming year.

  • Is AI The Secret To A Better Thrift Haul?

The Future of Secondhand Shopping Is Here

What would you think if a robot appeared on your screen and helped you thrift on the web?

That reality is already here, and you might not even realize it!

With the rise of AI (artificial intelligence), many apps, websites, and plugins are now utilizing special features to help us find the exact secondhand clothes we’re looking for or get the best deal online.

ThredUp, the largest secondhand clothing website, is the latest to release new AI features to help you navigate their platform and become a better thrifter.

In this post, I’m going to explore these new features and share how I’m using them and what my honest thoughts are about them.

    What is AI?

AI is defined as artificial intelligence, a technology that allows you to generate, classify, and perform tasks like image analysis and speech recognition.

It’s been around since the 1950s and is more a part of your life than you think.

Most people became cognizant of it with the rise of ChatGPT, but it does so much more than write poorly structured social media captions for your Instagram.

I honestly am in favor of AI and how accessible it makes things for many people. I’m not afraid of it taking my job, but I am in favor of how it can help me and you!

Now that we have covered that, let’s take a closer look at how AI is being used on the ThredUp platform!

AI-Powered Thrifting: How ThredUp is Transforming the Thrifting Experience

    Search Bar

The first change to appear on ThredUp was an improved search bar. I was excited to be part of this Beta testing earlier in the year and was impressed with how quick it sped up my searches for specific pieces!

According to ThredUp, this feature is meant to help you search for anything you want–from brands you love, specific pieces, or trends you can’t get enough of and they’ll show you endless options to add to your cart.

    Image Search

The next AI tool being implemented is an image search. This is already a popular feature on other apps like Gem or Beni, and now ThredUp is getting in on the fun.

Upload any photo (even from Instagram) and they’ll find the picture-perfect pieces to match.

In my experience with this feature, I found it to be very accurate! It was able to detect multiple pieces in one photo (despite a messy background or a human being featured) and found matches every single time. I’ll be utilizing this feature most to help search for Halloween costumes this year!

    Style Chat Bot

The last AI technology that ThredUp is using is a style chat bot.

Just tell ThredUp what inspires you–a look, an aesthetic, or even a celebrity–and they’ll instantly show you options that bring your imagination to life.

How does this differ from the search bar? While the search bar is great at finding singular pieces (ie: purple tank top, black strappy high heels) the style chat bot can collaborate with you to build the perfect look or share new ideas with you.

I entered a few style scenarios into the bot and it came back with collections and searches I wouldn’t have thought of. This would be so great to use if you need help getting dressed for an event or want to revamp your personal style.

Is AI The Future of Thrifting?

Whether we like it or not, AI is going to continue popping up on our favorite thrifting platforms and change the way we shop. Are those changes going to be good or bad? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this!

  • 3 Ways To Style Cargo Pants

    [su_note note_color=”#FFFFFF” text_color=”#000000″ radius=”9″ class=””]

This post contains affiliate links & I may receive a commission if you click or complete a purchase through them.

    [/su_note]

    Cargo Pants Are Cool Again

In case you haven’t heard, cargo pants are cool again.

While trying new trends can be intimidating, this is one comeback kid worth adding to your closet – smartly, of course.

These 90s icons have made a mighty comeback, shedding their dad-core reputation for good.

Whether you’re a long-time cargo convert or a skeptic joining the bandwagon, there’s no denying their versatility. From laid-back casual to unexpectedly chic, I’ve got three outfit formulas that’ll have you rocking cargos in style while getting plenty of wear out of this trendy pant.

Trying out trends with intention is key, so let me show you how to style cargo pants in a way that feels fresh but still distinctly you!

    Outfit Inspo: Sporty Chic

Starting with a classic combo, we’ve got beige cargo pants (mine are from maurices!) paired with a pink striped tee and a cozy pink zip-up hoodie. To complete the look, I added some slip-on white sneakers.

This outfit has a laid-back, sporty feel that’s perfect for running errands, grabbing coffee with friends, or just lounging around in style.

white female with brown curly hair wears beige cargo pants, pink striped t-shirt, and pink zip up hoodie with white sneakers white female with brown curly hair wears beige cargo pants, pink striped t-shirt, and pink zip up hoodie with white sneakers

    Outfit Inspo: Pretty and Practical

For our next cargo pants ensemble, we’re going for a fun juxtaposition of sporty and pretty. Start with those trusty beige cargo pants, then add a flirty white blouse with delicate ruffles. Accessorize with a colorful beaded necklace and slip into some coral ballet flats.

This outfit is perfect for days when you want to look put-together but still feel relaxed. The cargo pants ground the look, while the feminine blouse and ballet flats add a touch of elegance. It’s the best of both worlds – sporty and chic, all in one stylish package.

    Outfit Inspo: Cool and Trendy

Finally, let’s take cargo pants to the next level with a super on-trend outfit. Pair the beige bottoms with a white crop top featuring a fun rainbow graphic. Top it off with a sleek blue moto jacket and matching blue platform sneakers.

This look is all about embracing your inner fashion-forward self. The cargo pants provide a cool, utilitarian base, while the crop top, moto jacket, and platform sneakers amp up the trendy factor. It’s a perfect balance of casual and edgy, making it ideal for everything from a concert to a night out with friends.

The key to nailing this outfit is to let the cargo pants be the foundation, then build up the rest of the look with statement pieces that showcase your personal style. The result is a fresh, modern take on the classic cargo pant.

white female with brown curly hair wears beige cargo pants, white t-shirt with rainbow, blue moto jacket, and matching blue sandals white female with brown curly hair wears beige cargo pants, white t-shirt with rainbow, blue moto jacket, and matching blue sandals

    In Clothes-ing

The main idea here is to be a smart shopper when trying new trends.

Think about how you can mix and match new clothes with what you already have. By choosing versatile items, you can create many different outfits without spending too much. Fashion is all about showing who you are, so have fun experimenting!

Also, don’t forget to reuse items from your closet. With a bit of creativity, you can make old clothes look new again by adding accessories or layering.

So the next time you feel stuck with your style, remember these tips— shopping wisely, being creative, and reusing your clothes are the keys to refreshing your wardrobe and creating endless outfit options.

If you love shopping secondhand online as much as I do then you’re in the right place.

I’m always scouring thrift stores and resale sites for items from my thrifting wishlist and ThredUp recently made an update that’s making it even easier for me to do that. So, naturally, I had a pretty great thrift month on there.

To back up, ThredUp is an online consignment store that carries women’s clothes, shoes, and accessories. I’ve been a customer for many years and consistently order from them.

I love them so much that I’m even a ThredUp partner so if you’re interested in trying it, use my link to get 45% off AND free shipping on your first order!

Now let’s take a look at what I found this spring on ThredUp!

    Comfy ThredUp Finds

ThredUp improved their search bar to make it easier to find what you want. Before, you had to use the categories and checkboxes to narrow down your search (which is still an option!) but even then your results weren’t complete.

I’m thrilled with this new update (still in Beta as of 4/24) and it’s already helped me hunt down a red hoodie, yellow hoodie, and a pink jumpsuit. All from my thrifting wishlist!

I recently started physical therapy again and searched for “soft overalls” and this pink pair popped up. I couldn’t believe my luck! And they’re just as comfortable as they look!

    Dressy Finds from ThredUp

I’ll be honest, as much as I love these next three finds, they were all cart add-ons so I could order the items above and get free shipping.

Despite that, I ended up being really happy with all of them!

They are a black blouse with polka dot sleeves, a simple black long sleeve dress, and this epic pink floral muumuu style mini dress. I can’t decide which one I love more! Tell me what you think!

    In Clothes-ing

So that’s how the new ThredUp search bar helped me have one of my best thrift hauls in a while. Have you used the new ThredUp search bar? What did you think?

Just a reminder that if you’d like to try thredUP for yourself, you can use my code and save 45% AND free shipping on your first purchase. I’ll get store credit in exchange (which I’ll use on a future thrift haul) so it’s a win-win for both of us!

  • Classics Revisited: Recreating My Birthday Outfit From 10 Years Ago!

    Blast From the Past

Time flies when you’re having fun, especially on your birthday!

A birthday is all about cake, celebrations, and putting together the perfect outfit.

This year, as my birthday approaches, I thought it would be fun to recreate my look from 10 years ago!

The original dress was stolen, but I found a great alternative at the thrift store.

Scroll down to see how I gave my look a modern twist and get some spring outfit inspiration!

What I Wore For My Birthday 10 Years Ago

In 2014, my birthday dress was a custom yellow eShakti frock with a lovely floral pattern. I wore it on my birthday and also for Easter a few weeks later.

Shortly after, I lent the dress to an acquaintance halfway across the country who coincidentally “lost” it and I never got it back. I don’t know where it ended up but I hope that person donated it and someone else is rocking it for their special occasions!

hannah has pale skin and short dark curly hair. she's wearing white sunglasses, a yellow floral dress, and black moto jacket.

Updating a Colorful Dress For My Birthday

Fast forward to 2024 and I’ve thrifted a dupe of the original dress. The pattern and colors are slightly different, but it captures the same vibe as the first one.

To match my current style, I opted for a vibrant and colorful look. Although I enjoyed wearing colorful outfits 10 years ago, I now embrace it in a different way.

I no longer shy away from wearing a head-to-toe rainbow. Instead, I embrace it and love every minute of it!

hannah is a light skin woman with short dark curly hair. she's smiling and wearing an orange patterned dress, light blue moto jacket, teal pom pom necklace, and nude strappy heeled sandals.

For my updated look, I wore an orange patterned dress with a baby blue moto jacket, a homemade pom-pom necklace, and nude strappy high heels.

I love how the whole outfit feels lighter and more carefree. It reflects the personal growth I’ve experienced from my early 20s to my early 30s. Don’t you think so?

    The Present Is a Gift

Recreating this birthday outfit wasn’t just about revisiting the past. It was a playful and nostalgic way to see how my style has evolved with my confidence and sense of self.

It reminds me that fashion is a journey, and there’s no problem in revisiting classics while adding elements that reflect who you are now.

So, here’s to another year, another birthday, and another chance to celebrate with a colorful dress and a whole lot of confidence!

    ThredUp Thrift Store Clothing Haul

Does anyone else’s winter hobbies include thrifting online from home?!

My online thrift store of choice is ThredUp! (Peep the name change they made in February 2024!)

ThredUp is an online consignment store that carries women’s clothes, shoes, and accessories. I’ve been a customer for many years and consistently order from them.

I love them so much that I’ve become a ThredUp partner so if you’re interested in trying it, use my link to get 40% off your first order!

I had an overflowing list of favorites and finally hit the BUY button on my cart.

Let’s take a look at the hits and misses of my most recent haul!

    Flutter Sleeves

I’ve been trying to track down a flouncy white blouse for a couple of years now and took a chance on this one.

I would say it’s pretty cute and I had fun styling. It’s not completely what I had in mind but it’s no returnable so I will make it work!

    Head Games

It’s still winter in Wisconson so of course I’m going to shake up my outfits with fun cold-weather gear. I loved the throwback pattern on this hat with modern coloring that matches my personality!

    Check Mate

I’m currently trying to update all the plaids in my closet after a certain shrinking-in-the-wash incident. I plan to buy them oversized so it doesn’t happen again.

I thought this long plaid/tunic would replace one top but the sleeves and hips were too tight. It was not returnable so I’m just going to pass it along to the thrift store.

    Sassy Sequins

I don’t know if anyone else does this but I typically make a thredUP order that revolves around one statement piece – for me, it was this sequin cardigan from my thrifting wishlist.

This is even better than I could have imagined! The sequins are high quality, the fabric is completely stretchy, and the sleeves… SWOON!

    In Clothes-ing

This was another thrift haul of hits and misses but I’d say the hits really HIT! Amirite?!

What do you think of my purchases this month? Be sure to Pin your favorite outfit and follow along for more fashion posts coming soon!

    An Underrated Winter Essential?

Weren’t you complaining all Summer how hot it was and you couldn’t wait until Winter to layer your clothes?!

    Well, now we’re here!

So just because it’s Winter doesn’t mean you should stop trying out trends or putting an effort into your daily fits.

A new style I’ve tried out in the past few months is second-skin tops. Weird name, right?

It just refers to a top that’s form-fitting in nature and literally feels like you aren’t wearing a shirt at all.

Here’s why I think now is the best time to be wearing them, as well as 2 outfit ideas you can steal for yourself!

    Layers & (No) Chill

Hearing that a top is thin enough to feel like nothing at all probably doesn’t seem too appealing in the cold weather, but let me change your mind!

Winter is the time for layering so what better to layer with than a second-skin top that won’t add any bulk to your outfit AND is stylish?!

If you run hot, you might even benefit from some extra warmth with the mesh fabric as a base for your outfit.

For this outfit, I layered a nude cami under the second-skin top then added tights, a denim skirt, a red beret, and combat boots. If I was leaving the house, I’d grab a heavy coat and be good to go!

Level Up Your Layering With Second-Skin Tops

For my next look, I actually wore this during one of those freak “warm” Winter days that was about 30°. (IYKYK)

The cold never bothered me as I dashed between my car to the store and back again, plus I looked cute doing it in this second-skin top, utility pants, long pink coat, and sparkly sneakers.

Suffice to say, if you’re going out or staying in, this is a solid choice to wear in the Winter!

Step Up Your Winter Coat Game

I may not have the answer for combating the Winter blues but I do know how to accessorize your go-to Winter coat to help it feel fresh and interesting all season long.

Let’s dive into 3 ways to restyle your coat for a small boost of happiness in the Winter months!

The coat in this post was bought using store credit provided by thredUP. All opinions expressed are my own.

    Coat Update: Accessorizing With Black

The first restyle I have to share is a way to keep things within your comfort zone by accessorizing with the color black.

While it’s not normally my go-to, it has a very chic and incognito feel to it!

I achieved this look with a thrifted black beret, a faux fur scarf, and heart sunglasses. (To add back a bit of my own personality, of course!)

Coat Update: Accessorizing With Fall Gear

With cold weather taking up so much of our time in Wisconsin, it’s silly to store our fall finds for the season. Instead, I keep wearing the colors and patterns of Autumn well into the Winter!

For this look, I added an oversized plaid scarf and a mustard yellow hat to keep me warm and stylish. Despite the accessories being made for fall, the colors look really good with my thrifted puffer coat! Who cares if I’m so last season?

    Coat Update: Accessorizing With Color

Of course you were going to see a rainbow outfit in this post. I’m pretty obsessed with all these accessories and love how they look together!

I’m no expert but I also think that wearing a rainbow outfit in the Winter is sure to brighten up anyone’s mood and snag you lots of compliments. It’s a win-win!

    Wrapping Things Up

These are just 3 ideas to rotate within your Winter wardrobe. Imagine how many you could create if you have multiple coats, scarves, hats, etc!

For me, I love thrifting my cold weather gear. There’s already so much out there and can be pretty inexpensive, or even free if you look in the right places.

Want more ideas for accessorizing your Winter coat? Try these!

Wear a pair of earmuffs under your usual hat – or alone – for more warmth and protection.
Layer your scarves for a look that’s totally unique to you. Think of fun colors and patterns you can mix together!
Complete the look with sunglasses. Did you know it’s still very important to wear sunglasses and sunscreen in winter because of the UV rays reflecting off the bright snow? Plus, not only do they keep your eyes feeling fresh and less irritated by slowing down moisture evaporation, but they also save you from squinting in the sun’s reflection off ice and snow. Bonus: fewer wrinkles on your whole face!
