There’s a chill in the air and snow on the ground; do you know what that means? Time to get your Winter wardrobe started.

I got a head start by sourcing this beautiful, like-new, baby blue Sam Edelman puffer coat on thredUP this summer. (You may have seen it in my summer outfit dump!)

I have been waiting patiently for the temps to start dropping so I could style it! I got lucky and it happened to be cold AND snow.. and it’s only November.

But this isn’t a weather blog, we’re here to talk about fashion. Mainly how cute this thrifted puffer coat is and how I got it that way.

(To be fair, I’ve had some practice with a thrifted puffer coat outfit before!)

    The Perfect Puffer Coat

This puffer coat hits all my criteria for a winter coat which is that it has to be colorful, fun, and functional.

Over the years, I’ve become a fan of puffer coats but they normally come in dark colors, which I understand has more mass appeal than a rainbow-colored puffer coat. But I lucked out finding this light blue Sam Edelman jacket from thredUP. (My other raspberry-colored puffer coat was Lands End – also found on thredUP!)

How I Wore My Puffer Coat In The Snow

This coat has so many color combination possibilities! Though for its inaugural wear, I wanted to go with head-to-toe pastels. While it’s technically Fall and autumnal colors rule; the white snow is the perfect blank canvas to wear whatever colors you feel like.

I went with a newly thrifted blue waffle knit sweater, my favorite skinny jeans, and some accessories from Maurices that I’ve had for a few seasons now.

I also chose a thrifted pink scarf and funky pin to tie the colors back into the hat! (Note: I opted out of gloves because of how little I was actually outside + it’s not actually that cold when it’s snowing)

    Giving Winter The Boot

While fun outerwear doesn’t solve life’s biggest issues or the problems that come with darkness starting at 4 pm; it’s a small gesture that puts a smile on my face and helps me look forward to one aspect of Winter!

Please be sure to PIN this outfit if you LIKE it! And leave a COMMENT if you LOVE it! 💕

  • How To Make Your Clothes Last Longer

    [su_note note_color=”#FFFFFF” text_color=”#000000″ radius=”9″ class=””]

    [/su_note]

Fashion comes and goes, but style is forever.

    The Trend Trap

The allure of fashion shows sucks us into this train of thought that we should be updating our wardrobe for every season and keeping up with trends. For some people, this works. For others, like myself, we prefer to strategically buy pieces that reflect our personalities and our personal styles. (Whatever that looks like from day to day.)

It’s so wild to think that once upon a time, every piece in my outfit was hanging out on the racks at a mainstream retailer and it was trendy. Then suddenly, one day, it wasn’t trendy anymore and ended up at a thrift store where I swooped in and bought it.

It really makes you stop and think about the lifecycle of clothes both on a global spectrum but also within your own closet. Do you trade out your clothes pretty quick (thrifting and then re-donating months later) or do you hang on to clothes for a long time?

    What I’m Wearing

This outfit is the perfect example of what I’m talking about.

More than half of it was bought from thredUP, the largest online consignment store in the US. The white moto jacket is my newest purchase while the pink sweater and flared jeans were bought a year ago. I had a vision that they would play nicely with my wardrobe for a long time to come and I was right!

And the rest of my look is a combo of new and old secondhand pieces I’ve acquired through the years. (Recognize my “ugly” shirt? It’s still going strong!)

    Making Your Clothes Last Longer

When I say “make your clothes last longer,” I don’t mean in a laundry way. There are already laundry gurus out there that can teach you those tips and tricks but I’m not one of them.

What I’d like to share is more about making thoughtful buying decisions, and other tips to make your clothes last longer.

    1. Buy only things you have a vision for. Mindlessly buying clothes without a purpose will lead you to a closet of mismatched clothes and the dreaded having-nothing-wear-syndrome. Shop carefully, go with a plan, and buy things you really really really love.

    2. Look for quality pieces. As mentioned above, this multi-patterned button-up has been with me the longest and is arguably made to last! It’s also the oldest piece I’m wearing, likely originating in the early ’90s.

    3. Mix and match your clothes. Get as much wear out of what you currently own. Be an outfit repeater. I promise it’s cool!

I’m sure the information in this post isn’t anything new to you but it doesn’t hurt to have a reminder. Plus, I just really wanted to show off this outfit!

What would you add to this post? Let me know in the comments below! Also, be sure to Pin this outfit as inspo for later.

    A Thrift Exchange

What happens when two thrifters shop for one another and exchange packages in the mail? You get an epic thrift exchange!

Today I’m excited to share a thrift exchange with Sheri from Confessions of a Refashionista. Sheri is a clothing wizard who takes secondhand garments and turns them into brand new pieces! Her blog is full of all kind of transformations, tutorials, and sustainable shopping info.

But first watch my unboxing to see what custom creations she sent me and then scroll down to view the outfit I put together from all the items. And when you’re done, don’t forget to stop by Sheri’s channel to look at what I sent her!

Sheri sent so many fun items but this striped dress was begging to be worn first, since I’m still in the Halloween spirit and all.

I styled this dress with pink tights to match the tiny pink & green abstract bows that cover it. Then I punk’d it up with a moto jacket, fake Doc Martens, a spooky Goosebumps ring, and DIY pom-pom earrings. It might be weird to say but I felt like a sexy Beetlejuice! What do you think?

This is an outfit with class!

    Back To Cool

I thought the allure of back-to-school season had been lost on me as I’ve been a high school graduate for almost a decade now but it turns out I still get excited for it. New clothes, marked down craft supplies, and less children loitering at the thrift store? Yes, please!

I channeled all that excitement into this back-to-school outfit featuring a few of my favorite discounted pieces. Keep reading to learn more about them!

    Dollar Daze

This outfit has a secret, more silly, inspiration – this $1 planner from Dollar Tree! I’ve been hunting for the perfect, no-fuss, inexpensive planner to keep my life scheduled and this was exactly what I wanted. Not sponsored, I’m just thrilled to have found it and wanted to pass the note on to you in case you’re also looking for one.

    A No Brainer

Since this planner was so colorful, I wanted to reflect that in my look. Is it weird to match your outfit to your school supplies? Let’s just call it being on brand. 😉

I styled these thrifted overalls ($1.50 from a sale day!) with a Dollar Tree t-shirt that I used my Rit Dye tutorial to transform into a pretty ultraviolet color. Then I sported a mini neon satchel bag for something extra, and finished the look with gray accessories to offset all the colors.

    Book It

Outfit inspiration is where you least expect it! And it’s certainly less money than you might imagine. Why not book it to your nearest Dollar Tree and see what you can find?

  • My Sister Styles an Outfit For Me

sister styles an outfit for me hannah rupp the outfit repeater thrifted lace skirt

If anybody asks, my sister made me wear this!

    Sister Act

There’s a time honored tradition on my blog where a family member gets to style my outfit. First it was my mom, then it was my brother, and now you get to see what my older sister thinks I should wear!

My sister and I are closest in age than any of my siblings (just 3 years different) and thus the best of friends. Our styles growing up were starkly different as demonstrated by how we dressed our Barbies but only got more distinct from there. She dresses in a very matchy-matchy way while I’m a mismatched type of person.

Nowadays we tend to wear similar pieces but hardly in the same manner. For the purpose of this post, I asked her what’d she pair with my newly thrifted beige skirt and this is what she came up with!

    Style Swap

My sister wasn’t overly thrilled having to create an outfit for me because my closet overwhelmed her. (It’s either because she’s 5’0″ or because I have a lot of clothes.😂)

Her put-together style lead her to create a very neat look with coordinating pieces that match to the closest detail. The pink of the earrings matches the skirt, as do the gold tones seen in my shoes & accessories. Even the bruise on my right knee went perfectly with my purse!

    Family Fun

I think this outfit is very pretty, if not exactly something I’d wear everyday. I almost forgot I had this lace shirt so I’m glad she found it and put it to good use!

How’d my sister do? Are any of your envying her creation or should she stick to being a behind-the-scenes supporter of my blog? Tell me your thoughts in the comments!

  • The Best Clothes to Splurge On at a Thrift Store

Who would think I’d write a whole post telling you to spend MORE money at a thrift store?!

    Savers

While most of us thrift clothes to save money, I believe there are a few occasions when it’s worth spending more. We’re not talking hundreds of dollars, more so in the way you might select a decadent candy bar when you’re grocery shopping.

I specifically picked out this outfit to share with you a couple examples. There are no hard or fast rules but this post will highlight a few tips to keep in mind the next time you’re out thrifting!

Now You See Me, Now You Don’t

If thrifting has taught me anything it’s that the best time to buy something is when you see it.

My glittery sneakers were spotted while on vacation and with their unique look, the fact that they were actually in my size, and the distance I was from home, I had to snatch them up for the low price of $4.

Given that the price is ridiculously inexpensive, this is more of a lesson about buying something you can’t stop thinking about under special circumstances. Trust your gut that you need it! The splurge is (hopefully) worth it!

    Penny Pincher

A couple other things to splurge on are anything from your thrifting wishlist and well made closet essentials. It’s just a bonus if it’s both, like the medium wash denim jacket I’m wearing!

The price, again, wasn’t much at $6 but I normally don’t pay over $5 for anything that I thrift (furniture included) so an item really has to prove itself to me before I purchase it.

Some might advise that you should buy your basics firsthand (like tees, jeans, etc) but I’d argue that if they made it all the way to a thrift store in perfect shape then they are built to last!

    Miss Thrift

While splurge items don’t come along often, it’s helpful to have some boundaries in place for when they do. Hopefully this gave you some great things to think about!

What items do you think are worth splurging on at a thrift store? I’d love to hear your perspective!

Don’t forget to Pin this post or share it with a thrifty friend. 🙂

  • Summer Style Tips To Help You Look Great & Stay Cool

    [su_note note_color=”#FFFFFF” text_color=”#000000″ radius=”9″ class=””]

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Tampax Radiant at Walmart. The opinions and text are all mine. This site uses affiliate links

    [/su_note]

Take note of these summer style tricks you should keep in your pocket!

    Summer Style

School may be out but it’s never too late to learn a little something – especially when it has to do with fashion!

Summer is great season to get dressed for but you have to think more wisely of what you wear to avoid getting too hot, but somehow still look good. It may sound like a lot but I’m here to help you out! Keep reading for all my summer fashion tips.

    Light Bright

Choosing what colors to wear is a personal choice but it’s worth noting that lighter colors help deflect the sun (like my yellow dress) and darker colors absorb the sun and will make you warmer.

The fabric of my dress is also incredibly thin so there’s very little possibility that it’d make me hot. If you’re going to wear darker colors, go for lighter materials like cotton, rayon, and linen.

    Sun & Fun

Chances are your days are filled with endless activities so it makes sense to downsize your purse or go without one at all so your hands are free for more summer fun.

Tampax is giving you one less thing to stress about packing in your purse with their new Tampax Pocket Radiant tampons that are small enough to fit in any clutch or summer-sized pocket.

This new product features Tampax’s superior width-wise expansion and LeakGuard Braid™ protection system, a purple pocket size applicator, and a unique re-sealable wrapper. Best of all, they can be conveniently found at Walmart or Walmart.com!

    Less is More

Now is a great time to utilize cute accessories instead of more clothes. Nobody wants to be weighed down in lots of layers when it’s sweltering hot outside.

A great way to cut out the bulk while retaining your style is sticking with small accessories like a fun necklace or statement earrings, like what I’m wearing. Bonus: my earrings reflect in the sun and are like a party on my ears!

    A Not So Bummer Summer

If you follow these tips (plus add SPF!) then you’ll be having a better summer in no time at all!

I don’t have many occasions that require me to change outfits throughout the day but Saturday was one of those rare times for me.

From Event Hosting to Running Errands

I got to host my own program at the Monroe Public Library that was all about thrifting and then run errands in the afternoon. Bloggers, they’re just like us!

It was my first public speaking situation and my first time acting as a hostess with the mostest for a community gathering!

My outfit was carefully chosen to express my excitement for the day. I wore the dress as-is with high heels for hosting and then changed into a white denim jacket & flip flops for grocery shopping. Nothing like an outfit that can pull double duty!

(And yes I outfit repeated this look from last year!)

But let’s chat more about the program! It was such a fulfilling day and I want to share as much as I can from it.

    The Hostess With The Mostest

I was nervous beforehand of who would be there but was pleasantly surprised to recognize all but two faces.

The intimate crowd was preferable because that way it allowed us to have some great conversations about thrifting without much pressure, which was a highlight for me.

hannah rupp the outfit repeater thrift blog monroe public library program colorful striped dress

    Step By Step

Planning the program was fun but there were a few times where I felt a bit like a Bridezilla with my demands. Luckily everything came together and the decor was colorful, the crowd was enthusiastic, and the slideshow went off without a hitch.

So I guess it was like a wedding to me?! lol

    Something Old, Something New

I had originally bought this dress last summer, at the last minute, for a family wedding. Unbeknownst to me, the bridesmaids wore dresses in the exact same of fuchsia. Thankfully I was a family member or else I would have felt really embaressed!

Since then, this dress has sat in my closet, only appearing once in an Instagram picture last summer.

    Back To The Fuchsia

I decided to breathe new life into this dress because I really had intended to use it for other weddings and special occasions but none have really come up. Until Easter…

My styling is similar to the previous look except this time my hair is longer so going for that mod-look with big floral stud earrings just didn’t work. Instead I wore the same shoes and threw on a bright cardigan to make the color pop (as if it wasn’t already! 😂) and vintage bangles that were gifted to me from my late great-grandmother.

It feels really special wearing these bangles as most of my early Easter memories took place at my great grandma’s house and since she’s no longer with us, these bangles are like having a part of her join us for our celebration.

    An Eggs-cellent Outfit

I’m actually kind of glad I didn’t buy a new dress because then I would have missed out on wearing this pretty pink number! Do you re-wear your “special” occasion pieces or are you more of a one-and-done kind of person?

    I’m Feeling Lucky

A comment/conversation I have with a lot of you is about the “luck” I have when it comes to thrifting. While I understand where you’re coming from, I think it takes more than luck to find good stuff at the thrift store.

It also takes patience, planning and skills to truly find the treasure.

    Goldwill Finds

My green cardigan was found during a Goodwill clothing sale and patiently waited a few months to be paired with this dress that I also eventually found on another Goodwill sale day.

These light wash skinny jeans were picked up a store that I had never been to before but made a plan to stop by when they had a sale coming up.

And these non-thrifted shoes were snatched up right away from me at a local outlet store. It’s taken me years to gain the skill to spot my shoe size from a mile away so I wasted no time in buying them!

    The End of the Rainbow

Thrifting can feel like a never ending pursuit but it’s like a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow when you finally find exactly what you were looking for!

Don’t forget to Pin this post or share it with your friends for good luck!
