  • Fit Check: Everything I’ve Been Wearing To Work

What I Wore To Work Recently

    Long time, no fit check-in!

As a social media manager at maurices, I get first dibs on seeing new arrivals and playing dress-up with them in-store.

Here’s a look at what I styled in-store from the past few months.

Ready for some outfit inspo? Let’s dive in!

(Please note: any sale signs featured in the photos are from the past and do not reflect current sales or prices at maurices. Follow our page @mauricesmonroewi for the latest deals at our location!)

What I Wore: Lovely In Red

Valentine’s Day has come and gone, but it was fun to be surrounded by so much bright red and garments dotted with hearts. I had fun trying on some new-to-me silhouettes and showing off the details that made these pieces special.

    What I Wore: Christmas Clearance

If Valentine’s Day feels far away, these looks are from clearance during Christmas! On our social media feed, I’ve been trying to showcase more of the versatility of our pieces. I especially love showing off how much bang for your buck you can get out of a clearance item.

You don’t have to go broke to dress fashionably!

What I Wore: Pastels and Purses

Spring always ushers in lots of colors and is one of my most beloved style seasons at maurices. You can tell I’m having fun sporting pink and stripes—two of my all-time favorites!

Plus, we’ve been getting in a decent selection of purses, tote bags, and belt bags. They’ve been lacking in recent years but I think corporate heard our cries and they’re making a comeback. I can’t wait to see what’s next!

What I Wore: Forever In Blue Jeans

Jeans will always be a staple at maurices. We’re going through some major updates on that front too: expanded cuts for plus sizes, new inseams coming, and more trendy styles than ever before!

    In Clothesing

Which look caught your eye? I’d love to hear your favorite in the comments!

I hope these outfits spark some inspiration for your own wardrobe or give you the confidence to try out a new trend. If you need a style number or more details before your next shopping trip, don’t hesitate to ask—I’ve got you covered!

And if any of these looks stood out to you, don’t forget to save them to your outfit inspiration board on Pinterest. Your support means the world—thank you for reading!

Going For Gold: Rediscovering My Old Favorite Shirt

Do you ever donate an item and later regret letting it go?

I’ve had to part with a lot of clothes over the last decade due to fluctuating weight. What made those departures easier was my “thrifter’s philosophy” that if something was truly meant to be mine, it would eventually find its way back to me.

As luck would have it, I was recently reunited with a gold sequin tee similar to one I let go of in 2018. My original one had become too big, but I found its twin at maurices, of all places!

In the spirit of nostalgia, this new version is from the resurrected Studio Y line, a brand maurices carried back in the mid-2000s. It originally returned for a holiday collection and made another appearance this spring.

I was actually a little slow to try it on, worried it wouldn’t live up to my old favorite. As it turns out, it was the perfect fit. I waited until Christmas to officially make it mine, layering discounts and deals to snag it for only $1!

Will I learn anything from this? Nope. But will I have fun styling this gold sequin tee with my new closet after all the years? Heck yes!

  • Classics Revisited: Recreating My Birthday Outfit From 10 Years Ago!

    Blast From the Past

Time flies when you’re having fun, especially on your birthday!

A birthday is all about cake, celebrations, and putting together the perfect outfit.

This year, as my birthday approaches, I thought it would be fun to recreate my look from 10 years ago!

The original dress was stolen, but I found a great alternative at the thrift store.

Scroll down to see how I gave my look a modern twist and get some spring outfit inspiration!

What I Wore For My Birthday 10 Years Ago

In 2014, my birthday dress was a custom yellow eShakti frock with a lovely floral pattern. I wore it on my birthday and also for Easter a few weeks later.

Shortly after, I lent the dress to an acquaintance halfway across the country who coincidentally “lost” it and I never got it back. I don’t know where it ended up but I hope that person donated it and someone else is rocking it for their special occasions!

hannah has pale skin and short dark curly hair. she's wearing white sunglasses, a yellow floral dress, and black moto jacket.

Updating a Colorful Dress For My Birthday

Fast forward to 2024 and I’ve thrifted a dupe of the original dress. The pattern and colors are slightly different, but it captures the same vibe as the first one.

To match my current style, I opted for a vibrant and colorful look. Although I enjoyed wearing colorful outfits 10 years ago, I now embrace it in a different way.

I no longer shy away from wearing a head-to-toe rainbow. Instead, I embrace it and love every minute of it!

hannah is a light skin woman with short dark curly hair. she's smiling and wearing an orange patterned dress, light blue moto jacket, teal pom pom necklace, and nude strappy heeled sandals.

For my updated look, I wore an orange patterned dress with a baby blue moto jacket, a homemade pom-pom necklace, and nude strappy high heels.

I love how the whole outfit feels lighter and more carefree. It reflects the personal growth I’ve experienced from my early 20s to my early 30s. Don’t you think so?

    The Present Is a Gift

Recreating this birthday outfit wasn’t just about revisiting the past. It was a playful and nostalgic way to see how my style has evolved with my confidence and sense of self.

It reminds me that fashion is a journey, and there’s no problem in revisiting classics while adding elements that reflect who you are now.

So, here’s to another year, another birthday, and another chance to celebrate with a colorful dress and a whole lot of confidence!

  • Ringing In Spring With A Colorful, Casual Outfit

    A Colorful, Casual Spring Outfit

Maybe one day I’ll stop wearing color but today is not that day! I hope you’re not sick of me talking about colorful clothes because that’s what this post is all about.

Being a year-round dopamine dresser means that my closet never truly takes a break from color. I do like to embrace seasonal colors though which means I wear deeper shades in the Fall/Winter. But now Spring is here and bright colors are popping up everywhere – including my closet!

Here’s how I’m being inspired by the new season and came up with a colorful, casual thrifted outfit.

The Inspiration For My Colorful Spring Outfit

hannah has a short dark shag haircut. she's wearing a yellow beret, rainbow striped top, long pink coat, light denim destructed overalls, and bright blue ballet flats.

I was getting ready for an event and normally my go-to outfit is jeans and a nice top. (Can’t help it – I was a Y2k teen) But I was really feeling like I exhausted most of my jeans during the week and felt like wearing something different.

I started with a bright yellow beret to cover up the greasy roots from my new haircut I’ve been playing with too much, and that really set the vibe for the rest of the look.

Once I started with a statement piece, I just went through my closet matching things together.

I love this striped top and especially how it looks with this beret. I still went with denim – albeit overalls – and then added my pink coat overtop as a light layering piece for the in-between-y weather we were having.

How The Public Reacted to My Colorful Outfit

This outfit got a really positive response from almost everyone I encountered. A few people said that I was “bringing in Spring”!

I felt good about this outfit – which is always most important to me – so it was a bonus that strangers liked this outfit as much as I did!

Tips For Adding Color To Your Closet This Spring

I know I make wearing color look easy but I also know it can be intimidating!  If black and gray are your safe zone but you’re feeling bold and want to add some color to your wardrobe this spring, try these tips:

    • Wear a fun accessory like a hat or a headband
    • Add a pop of color with your jewelry
    • Tie a bright scarf on your purse or around your neck
    • Wear colorful shoes with your LBD (little black dress)
    • Try a new shade of lipstick like pink or red

You don’t have to wear head-to-toe color on the first try. Like with anything, it takes practice. The more you wear it and get comfortable, the more confident you’ll be. Soon enough, you can recreate any outfit I share here or on my social channels!

What I Wore For My Birthday

    I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling 32!

On March 20th, I celebrated another trip around the sun, and that was the inspiration behind my birthday photoshoot – another trip around the sun!

I wanted to incorporate lots of bright colors and earthy elements – despite Pisces being a water sign – you’ll just have to go with the flow with me on this one.

    My Birthday Outfit

This secondhand ASOS dress was bought from thredUP last October and I’ve been saving it for a special occasion like today! I love the vague tie-dye print. It feels both hippie and eclectic! Dopamine dressing at its finest.

    Birthday Photoshoot

Aside from my outfit, my photoshoot vision also included this DIY blue cloud background to represent being outdoors. (Somewhere I don’t go a lot lol)

I also made this PROP cake! It looks good enough to eat but it’s actually craft foam and lightweight spackling.

All in all, I love this birthday photoshoot. I think it captures who I am and how I feel about getting older. This will definitely be a tough birthday photoshoot to outdo for next year!

Don’t you wish you could just hide out in an air-conditioned building all summer and avoid the blaze of the scorching hot temps?!

    Hey, a girl can dream.

When you do have to go out – and I KNOW you will – you’ll have to dress strategically. Something cute, functional, and ideally that you feel comfortable in.

My summer uniform changes slightly from year to year so this post is all about what’s working for me this time around and hopefully you can get a few tips to help yourself!

Keep reading to learn more about my simple summer outfit formula.

    Pretty, Practical, Powerful

No matter what time of year it is or what season of life you’re going through, I think it’s important to use your clothes to express yourself.

Even when I’ve spent more times than I can count in the hospital during the last year, I always made sure to wear my favorite socks with the provided scrubs and medical mask.

The way this applies to getting dressed in the summer is choosing clothes in a fun pattern or your “power color”. (The color that makes you feel like you can take on the world!)

    [irp]

I chose a pink maxi dress in a lightweight cotton material. It’s actually a little on the sheer side so it lets in the ultimate breeze and I hope the striped pattern helps distract from any undergarment outlines!

I also added an oversized denim jacket on top, again, in pink. This is a good topper for both sun protection and to fight the chill of indoor A/C that always seems to be too high in public spaces.

Both of these pieces help add interest to a look when you can’t do a lot of layering!

    The Essentials

The real star of my outfit is the accessories!

You can never have too many in the summer. From practical ones like a wide-brim sun hat, a bucket hat, or a kimono. To fun pieces like statement earrings, sunglasses, and chunky sandals.

But most important is the sunscreen. My current go-to is Supergoop! Superscreen Daily Moisturizer SPF 40 for my face and Babyganics SPF 50 Spray for my body.

    Chilling Out

When all else fails and your body demands to stay indoors in very minimal clothing, a popsicle or a big bowl of ice cream is the way to go! I may or may not be having that kind of day while writing this post. 😉

Please be sure to Pin your favorite outfit from this post and leave a comment telling me about your summer outfit formula this year!

    Sunny Days Ahead

    Here comes the FUN! ️‍🌈

Summer is unofficially here and I took advantage of some early warm temps to wear a dress and play tourist in my hometown.

I didn’t get any pictures while I was in the wild but this outfit was too good not to share. So I came home and set up a DIY photo backdrop to capture it! What do we think?!

This dress is arguably one of the most casual in my closet but I know many people view dresses as, well, dressy. It bears repeating but you should always wear what you want any day of the week.

Don’t wait and save your “special” pieces for a day that might not come. Make today a special day and wear what makes you happy!

  • 3 Questions That Will Change The Way You Look At Your Closet

How to Find Your Style: 3 Questions for Closet Clarity

Hannah is wearing a thrifted graphic tee with a blue moto jacket on top, rainbow striped knee length skirt on the bottom, and red high heels

I’m a big fan of having a personal style but sometimes it can be hard to know where to start.

Identifying style icons and creating moodboards is a great place to begin but if you want to dig a little deeper and uncover more about your closet needs, create more “you” outfits, and feel more confident when shopping, then this post is for you!

My personal style has changed so much over the years and I don’t see it “settling” anytime soon. That’s the fun of a personal style. It should always be evolving and keeping up with your current lifestyle and mainstream fashion trends.

One thing I’ve focused on more heavily this year is editing my closet and creating a wardrobe that I love. Despite being filled with pieces I adore, my closet was a source of dread for me and I would easily get frustrated trying to put things together.

    This is SO unlike me!

I knew something had to change so I took some time answering a few questions to gain more insight into my current dressing habits. The experience was illuminating and since then I’ve started making more intentional purchases and buying things that make sense for me.

Getting dressed is fun again! (Quarantine aside. haha)

Here are the 3 questions that lead to my breakthrough:

How do I describe my current style?

This was an easy question to answer! I know that I gravitate towards colorful pieces that have a little edge to them. I guess if I were taking a style quiz, I’d be classified as a “creative” dresser.

Some of you might already have an answer to this, too, and others might have to peek in their closet and try to determine what style stands out the most. Or, heck, even take a style quiz online or in a magazine.

There’s really no wrong answer. A few simple words, a whole detailed paragraph, or even a picture should suffice as a way to describe your personal style. (Or just the personal style you aspire to!)

What do I need outfits for?

To be honest, this question never crossed my mind before this year. I read about it in “how to find your personal style” guides all the time but thought it was geared towards people who were fashionably-challenged.

I just knew I wanted my outfits to be fun and I left it at that. Big mistake! I was left with a closet full of fun clothes that didn’t match the situations I was in.

To answer this question, I wrote down a list of all the places and events I engage in on a regular basis. I even took it a step further and visualized what I’d be wearing in those scenarios. What would someone with a colorful aesthetic wear to a business meeting? Or to the grocery store? Or on a date?

I also added looks to my fashion Pinterest board that I felt represented those visions the most. Visualizing is powerful, y’all!

What do I want my style to do?

This question focuses more on the future and evolution of my style. Beyond just being able to get dressed everyday or emulate outfits worn by Jenna Lyons, what do I want to do better at or incorporate into my looks?

This could be as simple as “wear more jewelry” or “pick higher quality pieces.” You don’t need to overthink this question. You may not even have an answer! That’s ok!

Hannah is wearing bright red lipstick, colorful polymer clay earrings, a statement necklace, and a light blue moto jacket

For me, instead of just writing this stuff down to do “one day,” I’m committing myself to actually putting the list into practice. If I want to wear more jewelry, I’m going to buy more jewelry! If I want my style to mature with me, I’m going to intentionally pick out pieces with different cuts or silhouettes.

The important thing is to pick a few goals and stick with them. Like news years resolutions but for your your closet!

Are you ready for your own closet breakthrough?

This year has placed us all in big shake ups and really highlighted our problems and encouraged us to come up with creative solutions. As insignificant as it is in the bigger picture, I’m glad that I’ve become more aware of my closet issues and can reset my habits.

I hope this post helped you as well! Please be sure to share it with a friend or Pin it for later.

  • Falling Back In Love With My Closet

Hannah has short shaggy curls adorned with a yellow headband, in front of a leafy background, wearing an orange sweater, yellow jacket, striped scarf, and burgundy jeggings

Needless to say, this was not my summer.

After 12 years with stomach issues and 3 years with chronic fatigue, I’m still finding out new things about myself everyday.

This summer was like one I’d never had before, full of days and weeks stuck in bed with heavy fatigue and brain fog. After months of intense symptoms and doctor appointments, I’m only emerging back into a “human-like” state because the weather has cooled down.

  • One Week Of Outfits… Styled By My Mom

    Good Genes

Momma mia, here we go again! My mom/best friend/quarantine buddy rifled through my closet to come up with 5 looks for me to wear during the week.

Maybe because we’ve been social distancing together or I’m getting tired of wearing the same PJs as clothes everyday, but I asked her to take the reigns and see what she could come up with for me to wear.

She actually styled an outfit for a blog post a couple years ago and it remains one of my most liked outfits/posts on the internet so despite what she says, I think she has a knack for fashion.

This time around I let my mom do whatever she wanted in my closet and I offered to accessorize (since that’s not one of her strengths).

Check out our teamwork below and then be sure to leave a comment to let us know what your favorite outfit of the week is!
