  • Styled by Strangers: I Let the Internet Create Looks From My Digital Closet

One Year On The Whering App

Wow, it’s hard to believe it’s been one year since I digitized my wardrobe in the Whering app!

I did it partly out of curiosity, but also in anticipation of a bunion surgery I had last February. I wanted a way to feel connected to my closet, even if I wasn’t dressing up.

I can say for certain that it has paid off. I love using the app, seeing my closet, and creating new outfits. Best of all, I love the social aspect. So many of you have created looks for me using pieces from my digital closet.

I recently had a chance to scroll through and try out some of the looks in real life. If yours didn’t make it into this post, no worries. There was A LOT, so please don’t take it personally if I didn’t get to yours. I will try to get to it next time!

But without further ado, let’s check out some fits styled by strangers on the internet!

    Styled by Strangers

The creativity this time around was off the charts! (See styling of previous Whering outfits on my blog, as well as a full review of the Whering app.)

There were a lot of looks to sift through, but I did my best to pick a variety, as well as outfits that were seasonally appropriate. Coats and sweaters were high priority!

Styling My Thrifted Fuzzy White Jacket

I thought it was funny (and also fun!) how many outfits were styled around this thrifted fuzzy white jacket. I don’t wear it often in real life—in fact, I can’t remember the last time I really did wear it!—so I appreciate all of these ideas for how to wear it with things in my closet.

    Other Outfits Styled By You

I think it’s awesome how everyone sees something different with the same pieces in my closet. Your unique vision really came through!

Here are just a few more looks that were styled by strangers. Though considering you were digging in my closet, we may need to become best friends!

    What Are You Whering?

Now that you’ve had a look inside my closet and some of the fun dress-up times I’ve had with it, I’d love to see your closets! If you’re also on Whering, let’s style one another!

What do you think of these outfits? Would you have styled something different? Sound off in the comments!

  • Winter Capsule Wardrobe Idea: Thrifted, Colorful, and Cool

    Colorful Winter Capsule Wardrobe

Winter is both the best and the worst time to get dressed. On the one hand, it’s cold enough to layer your outfits and create interesting looks. On the other hand, you’re freezing, and everything ends up covered by a coat.

Despite these pros and cons, I still love playing dress-up in winter—even if it’s just for fun while working from home. To keep things exciting while stuck indoors, I created a colorful capsule wardrobe to gamify my winter style.

For this capsule, I asked my Instagram followers to help me choose a color palette. Then, I pulled 10 pieces from my closet that matched the vibe. From there, I experimented with different combinations and came up with some really fun outfits!

As you scroll through this post, I hope you embrace the same playful spirit. Some outfits turned out better than others, but they all came from the joy of experimenting with what I already own.

Enjoy this little burst of winter wardrobe inspiration!

How I Chose My Colorful Winter Capsule Wardrobe

As I mentioned, my Instagram followers were the ones behind choosing the color palette for this capsule wardrobe. I offered them a choice of four different color combos, and this is the one they chose:

It’s a cool, dusty situation. A little different for me, but I love a challenge!

After learning about the color palette, I went through my closet to find 10 pieces (10 is always my favorite for capsule wardrobe challenges) and pulled a selection of tops, bottoms, basics, and statement pieces.

Essentially, I wanted a well-rounded wardrobe that I could really play with and not get bored of. It was just a bonus that almost everything was thrifted!

Altogether, this is what I picked out and used to make the outfits in this post. Coats, shoes, and accessories were all bonus items that I didn’t count towards my 10 items!

Colorful Winter Capsule Wardrobe: A Sequin Skirt

Nothing can get you through the long, dark days of winter like sequins! For me, I chose this beautiful vintage teal skirt that I thrifted last summer.

The color is very reflective of freshly fallen snow, while the sparkles keep my spirits bright. It’s also a great transitional piece to go from the holiday season into the winter months.

If you’re in a cold climate like me, remember to layer up with tights if you have a skirt or dress in your winter capsule wardrobe. 😉

Colorful Winter Capsule Wardrobe: Fun Pants

Fun pants are just a staple of my life year-round, but for the purpose of this challenge, I chose a powder blue pair of trousers.

These can be dressed up with luxe tones or high heels, or dressed down with a graphic tee and jeans.

I’m obsessed with the color and can’t wait to remix them with more hues in the future! What color should I pair them with next?

Colorful Winter Capsule Wardrobe: Classic Denim

Finally, we have a classic pair of denim. I’m sure these are a staple in most people’s wardrobes, as they’re easy to pair with almost anything.

I tried a few styling tricks, like tucking, adding scarves, and layering, to add interest to an otherwise ordinary article of clothing.

    In Clothes-ing

What would you include in your winter capsule wardrobe? I’d love to hear your take on this challenge!

If you enjoyed it, please be sure to Pin it to try out later or send it to a friend who could use the inspiration.

  • A Year in Fashion: My 2024 Style Goals and What’s Next for 2025

    New Year, New Style Goals

‘Tis the season for list-making, huh?

First, we wrote out a wishlist of toys for Santa, and now we’re expected to come up with New Year’s resolutions.

I take a slightly different approach to New Year’s resolutions and instead choose to focus on creating style goals for the upcoming year.

This is a “tradition” I started on my blog a few years ago, and it has continued to gain in popularity. Check out my 2023 style goals blog post by clicking here!

To sum up what it means to create style goals: it’s an outline of trends I want to try, shopping habits I want to implement, or even a cleaning strategy I want to start in my closet.

    Basically, anything related to fashion!

So let’s look back at what my style goals were for 2024 and what I’ll be changing in 2025!

2024 Style Goals: How Did I Do?

I kept my 2024 style goals simple with a list of only four items. But despite a short list, I was still only able to accomplish one of the goals on it!

    a pile of pink clothes

    ➡️ Buy Colored Jeans

This might seem like a simple feat, but my preferred method of shopping is at thrift stores, so you have to be open to what the thrift gods send your way.

I did try on a few pairs of creative jeans, but none were quite the right fit for my body or wardrobe. I’ll probably keep this as a rolling goal, as it would still be great to add some to my closet!

➡️ Be More Creative With My Scarf Collection

Accessorizing with scarves didn’t really work out for me. I added a few here and there to my outfits, but nowhere near the amount that I used to in my early fashion blogging days. Again, I will continue to carry this goal into the future.

a close-up of different vintage scarf patterns

    ➡️ DIY More Stuff

Customizing my clothes was a HUGE success! I made a few changes to my crafting space, which made starting projects much easier for me. As a result, I crafted a whole line of jewelry, painted a jacket, and have many more designs lined up shortly.

    ➡️ Grow My Hat Collection

My hat collection remains exactly the same! I’m okay with this because the hats I currently own get a lot of wear. I’ll keep an eye out for more hats while thrifting, but I learned that I’m content with my current collection.

2025 Style Goals: What Will I Do?

To be honest, I wasn’t sure what kind of style goals to set for 2025. Because of this, I didn’t feel the need to “add” anything to my closet in the way of shopping, but instead resolved to get more creative with what I have. Can you relate to that sort of goal?

a yellow smiley face mug with a bunch of vintage scarves coming out of it's head like hair

    ➡️ Try a New-To-Me Style Subculture

It seems like there’s a new style subculture every day. While I don’t feel it’s important to keep up with trends, I also don’t see any harm in finding new ways to style what I already have and continue to evolve my personal style. Is there a subculture I should consider? Leave your suggestions in the comments!

    ➡️ Collaborate on Style Projects

Collaborations with other online fashionistas are something I’ve put on the back burner for many years. But with my 10th blogiversary happening in 2025, I’d like to get back to my fashion blogging roots and connect with other creators to showcase our expertise and talents.

    ➡️ Mix Patterns More Frequently

Another throwback from my original blogging days? Pattern mixing! I’ve gotten much more into color play in recent years but want to try my hand at pattern mixing again. Maybe my scarf goal will come in handy for this one?

a pink striped tee, pink scarf, giant flower, surrounded by vintage fashion magazines

➡️ Host Another Local Clothing Swap

If you’re a local reader or an avid follower of my social media pages, you’ve probably seen me promote a couple of clothing swaps this past year. With the help of a friend, we put together two inclusive clothing swaps for our community, where we all came together with our unwanted clothes and exchanged them with one another. Both times, we donated the leftovers to a great thrift store in our area that helps a lot of people.

The clothing swaps continue to get bigger and better each time, and I’m hoping to host at least one or two more this year, energy permitting.

    In Clothes-ing

I hope this post encourages you to consider some style goals to take you into the new year. Even if it’s just a small action, like documenting your outfits every day, it all adds up in the long run and can help you feel more connected to your clothes and discover your personal style.

Be sure to follow along here or on my social media pages (linked below) to keep up with my style goals throughout the year. I’d love the accountability!

  • 12 Thrifted Outfits That Defined My 2024 Style

12 Best Outfits Of The Year

Let’s end the year on a stylish note! Here’s a look back at the 12 outfits that defined my personal style this year. Did any of your faves make the list?

    Best Spring & Summer Outfits

Who doesn’t love getting dressed in the warmer months when the sun is shining? I definitely brought out all my best thrifted colors and patterns and played dress-up like never before.

    Best Fall & Winter Outfits

Fall turned into a string of somber months, so I once again chose a color palette to match the season. That included warmer tones, nostalgic details, and at least one fun element to keep it light during some dark times.

    In Clothes-ing

I’d LOVE to hear about your best outfit of the year! Share it with me in the comments!

Thank you all so much for joining me for another fashion-filled year! This year had a lot of ups and downs, but I was glad to have dopamine dressing to fall back on and put a smile on my face.

    What I Wore At Maurices

Working at maurices isn’t just a job; it’s an excuse to play dress-up every single day!

How many people can say their closet is an entire women’s clothing store?!

While I work behind the scenes as a social media manager, I still get to go on-site and try on clothes to learn more about how they fit, feel, and the styling possibilities. And now I get to pass that information on to you!

Let me take you behind the scenes to share the trends I’ve been loving lately and how I’ve styled them for work, play, and beyond.

(Please note: any sale signs featured in the photos are from the past and do not reflect current sales or prices at maurices. Follow our page @mauricesmonroewi for the latest deals at our location!)

    Trending at maurices: Big Bags

maurices has been out of the purse game for a while but is slowly making a comeback with canvas totes for the holidays, large carryalls for trips, belt bags (or fanny packs, as they used to be known as), and even a faux leather handbag.

They’re one of our most requested items, so I’m glad to see them on the floor again—and I’m even more excited that I get to style them with outfits. I think a cool bag can really make or break a look. Don’t you agree?

    Trending at maurices: Unique Jeans

Trends come and go but denim never goes out of style! It just keeps reinventing itself with new washes, technology, cuts, and colors.

My standouts from the season are the return of colored denim and the Silver wide legs jeans (as seen in the first photo but already sold out!).

    Trending at maurices: Holiday Outfits

We’re almost done with the holiday season but it’d be a shame not to share what I’ve been wearing!

The first outfit is my own thrifted outfit that I wore to host a live video on Black Friday. All the other images are head-to-toe maurices that I tried on in-store. My takeaway? Comfort is truly king during the holidays!

    In Clothes-ing

Which look caught your eye? I’d love to hear your favorite in the comments!

I hope these outfits spark some inspiration for your own wardrobe or give you the confidence to try out a new trend. If you need a style number or more details before your next shopping trip, don’t hesitate to ask—I’ve got you covered!

And if any of these looks stood out to you, don’t forget to save them to your outfit inspiration board on Pinterest. Your support means the world—thank you for reading!

  • What I Scored on ThredUp: My Best Finds of the Year

    [su_note note_color=”#FFFFFF” text_color=”#000000″ radius=”9″ class=””]

    Best ThredUp Finds of 2024

If you love fun fashion finds, then you’re reading the right post!

It’s the end of the year, and I’m looking back at what I accomplished in my closet and how the world’s largest online consignment store, ThredUp, helped add to my personal style.

Let’s be real: I’ll never be a “zero-buy” girlie, but I am always conscious of my buys and the impact they have on my wallet and the earth. For me, thrifting isn’t just about shopping—it’s about conscious choices, personal expression, and giving clothes a second life instead of sending them to a landfill.

So, while this post might seem like a celebration of consumerism, it’s really about embracing sustainable style, experimenting with fashion, and creating a wardrobe that feels uniquely mine.

Now, let’s break down my best finds of the year and how I styled them.

    Best ThredUp Finds: Cozy Essentials

When you find a secondhand basic in good condition, you KNOW it was meant to last! Considering how often I wear my comfy favorites, it’s a wonder an oversized hoodie and cropped graphic tee could make it out of my closet in wearable condition.

It’s nice to be able to upgrade those worn-out pieces with new-to-me ones. How often do you end up replacing pieces in your closet from getting too much use? Or do you get creative with mending and upcycling?

    Best ThredUp Finds: Fancy Frocks

I love thrifting fancier pieces because I’m never sure how often they’ll get worn and want to spend modestly in case it just sits in the back of my closet, y’know?

ThredUp did not disappoint this year with a sequin duster, a blouse version of my favorite dress, and even some platform clogs from my thrifting wishlist.

Best ThredUp Finds: Pretty Little Pieces

I’m not immune to an impulse purchase, and thankfully some of my late-night shopping produced some really fun pieces from ThredUp! With the exception of the pink platform sandals that just arrived (I’m just shopping off-season for the really good deals), everything else has already gotten a few moments in the spotlight when I wore them this year.

    The Future of (Secondhand) Fashion

I can’t wait to see how these pieces continue to earn their place in my wardrobe and what new frocks I’ll discover on ThredUp in the coming year.

If you’re ready to embark on your own style journey, ThredUp is a great place to start! Use my ThredUp affiliate link to save 45% on your first order and get free shipping.

New ThredUp customers can get 45% off AND free shipping on their first order.

3 Ways to Style a Denim Overall Dress (Without Looking Childish!) How To Style a Denim Overall Dress

Who doesn’t love a denim overall dress?!

A denim jumper is both timeless, easy to wear, but also harkens back to a simpler time in our lives; thus making us feel very child-ish when we wear them.

It’s definitely tricky finding a balance of styling clothes usually associated with children while making them feel grown-up for you now and also representing your personal style.

Today I’m tackling the problem with denim overall dresses and hopefully sparking some new outfit ideas for you!

Outfit Idea: A Denim Dress with Color

My personal style is very colorful so naturally I want to style a staple like a denim dress with color!

The blue denim can really be an anchor for any color palette you choose. I went with reds and orange since my mind is in Fall mode!

I think the red is also a more mature version of pink that we might see and associate with a little girls outfit. Red is a bold choice, marking how far you’ve come since you were younger!

hannah is standing in front of a pink background, smiling, wearing a denim dress with a red puff sleeve blouse, red tights, and black flats. hannah is standing in front of a pink background, smiling, wearing a denim dress and a red puff sleeve blouse. she has a long silver necklace with a red apple on it.

Outfit Idea: A Denim Dress and Embracing Youthful Elements

If you’re already going to feel like a child in a denim dress, why not embrace it?

I went with another colorful palette but the pieces themselves have grown-up silhouettes. Like a pea coat, beret, and boat neck top.

hannah is standing in front of a pink background, smiling, wearing a denim dress, yellow pea coat, yellow beret, and cobalt blue flats. hannah is standing in front of a pink background, smiling, wearing a denim dress, yellow beret, yellow pea coat, and a striped boat neck top.

Outfit Idea: A Denim Dress and Moto Jacket

Lastly, get as far as you can from a goody-two-shoes image by decking yourself out in dark colors and an edgy moto jacket!

I added a fun patterned scarf for some flair, but a structured hat or statement accessories would also be a good addition to this look!

hannah is standing in front of a pink background, smiling, wearing a denim dress with a black moto jacket, black tights, black boots, and a star print vintage scarf around her neck. hannah is standing in front of a pink background, smiling, wearing a denim dress, a denim moto jacket, and a star print vintage scarf around her neck. she has her hand in her naturally wavy hair.

    Jean (Dress) Queen

A denim dress can be so much fun to style and wear. If you’re still feeling self-conscious, try to think about where those thoughts are coming from and why they bother you so much. There’s nothing wrong with wearing what you like and expressing yourself!

At the end of the day, there’s no harm in wearing something youthful or wearing your hair in pigtails. The world will keep spinning and you will have rocked a look that was true to yourself!

What I Wear To Go Thrifting | Secondhand Outfit Ideas | 6 Outfit Ideas To Wear The Next Time You Go ThriftingWhat To Wear Thrifting

Picture it: you’re planning a big thrift outing. You’ve researched the thrift stores, loaded them into Google Maps, gassed up your car, and taken cash out at an ATM.

But what are you going to wear?!

You might just throw on whatever looks good in the morning or you can give it some strategic thinking. Will the fitting rooms be open at the store? Is it supposed to get hot? Does the store you’re going to have a reputation for being dirty? Are you going to be trying stuff on? Or bending over a lot?

There’s so much to consider when picking an outfit to wear thrifting!

I more or less follow a formula (or a thrifting uniform!) but also allow for my mood and the weather to guide me when the time comes.

If you need some inspo on what to wear thrifting, you’re in the right place! Here’s a round-up of recent outfits I wore to go thrifting and why I picked them!

    Keep It Colorful

There are very few things I won’t wear thrifting. One thing that comes to mind is white. That’s just taking too much of a chance on a thrift store’s cleanliness. (Sorry!)

So I like to wear bright, colorful clothing without each piece being too fussy.

Denim overalls are awesome because you get to wear jeans without the hassle of wearing a belt or pulling them up all day. Then I layered a neon tee shirt underneath (comfy!!) and a zip-up hoodie in a contrasting color. I went without a purse and crammed everything into a fanny pack worn like a crossbody bag. And finally sneakers!

This outfit checks all the boxes for my above criteria. I can move, bend, and try-on with ease!

    Back To Basics

Am I wearing a bodysuit? No! And my version is easier to get in and out of while thrifting!

My secret is I put together a black top and black leggings (both Maurices!) to create a faux bodysuit look. On top I added a white button-up in place of where I might wear a jacket. It was a hot summer day, and I didn’t feel like shaving, and this allowed my skin to get cool while not even showing skin at all.

And again with the fanny pack! I usually choose a fanny pack if I’m going to a few familiar places. But as you’ll see coming up, I typically choose a larger purse for more intense day trips when I need to carry excess “emergency” items on me!

    Comfort is Key

The leggings and sandals are back again but this time I went with a long striped tunic and a denim jacket. It has comfort but also made me feel a little edgy.

Peep the black faux leather backpack in the corner. This was a long day for me and I needed to carry my essentials without straining my joints too much. It all worked together in perfect symmetry!

    Have Fun With It

This combination of a cropped graphic tee and palazzo pants is definitely out of the ordinary for me. (For thrifting, anyways. lol) I talked more about this look in the post about my tricks for using thrift store fitting rooms but basically, I was celebrating National Thrift Shop Day so my outfit was just one big party!

I think I was able to keep a balance of something casual with something colorful. I tried on a lot of clothes that day so I’d say it was a good one for quick changes!

    Dress To Blend In

Thrifting is not a top-secret mission but sometimes you have a day that feels that way.

I was running to a couple of stores with one particular thing in mind so I went with my standby of leggings and a tunic. I chose black because my sleepy brain didn’t want to match colors and because I thought it made me stealthier. I could slink through the aisles undetected and focus on what I was looking for without being interrupted.

    Sometimes it be like that.

    Top + Bottom = Outfit

When I was getting dressed, I knew I wanted to wear a graphic t-shirt so I built my whole look around that. I hadn’t worn these plaid pants in nearly a year and I remembered that they have a ton of stretch so they were good get-around pants.

Because it was summer, I wore sandals. But if it was a different season (or I had given this more thought before leaving the house) I would have swapped out the sandals for Converse-style sneakers or my knock-off Doc Martens.

A tip I mentioned in my fitting room post is to wear or bring along socks. I know, I know, I really failed with these looks. But do as I write, not as I wear.

What Do YOU Wear To Go Thrifting?

Another thing I wear thrifting that didn’t get covered in this post is dresses! (Like, sans leggings) That’s the easiest throw-and-go option out there and I utilize it a lot. Can you imagine a brightly colored maxi dress, sneakers, and a denim jacket?! SLAY!!!

    ///

Now I want to know what YOU wear to go thrifting! I love people watching at thrift stores and usually see the whole spectrum of fashion when I’m out. It’s so much fun seeing people express themselves through clothes!
