What I Bought From thredUP + An Important Update On Their Return PolicyWhat I Bought From ThredUp

Thrifting online can be very hit or miss, even when you’re well experienced on a platform and carefully research an item before hitting buy.

One platform I use over and over again is ThredUp. ThredUp is an online consignment store that carries women’s clothes, shoes, and accessories.

My most recent ThredUp purchase had 3 things. All of them were from my thrifting wishlist but all had a slightly different outcome.

Here’s what I bought from ThredUp, what I’m keeping, and what I’ll be returning!

What I’m Returning From My ThredUp Haul

My first thrifting wishlist item was this pink and orange polka dot maxi dress.

I’ve seen it many times on the ThredUp site but it always gets away from me.

I was finally able to snag it and give it a try. Turns out, it was for the best that I didn’t own it sooner because I didn’t end up loving it.

While the colors and polka dot pattern are very ME – I was instantly annoyed with the sleeves riding up. And is anyone else getting Mormon vibes from the cut? I just wasn’t feeling it at all.

My second ThredUp find that I’ll be returning are these peachy high-waisted gaucho pants.

They aren’t too bad at first glance. But the pair I have on my thrifting wishlist are either white or tan colored – not the same color as my skin tone. (Sometimes it’s hard to judge a color from a photo online. You live and you learn!)

I was also hoping for something a bit higher-waisted. And I was surprised they had no pockets! No pockets are a no-go for me!

What I’m Keeping From My ThredUp Haul

When all else fails, a cute purse (or backpack, in my case!) is always a one-size-fits-all solution.

This yellow Baggu backpack has been on my thrifting wishlist. The color is even more vibrant in person!

I like to carry backpacks for days full of long errands and I think this one will be perfect for that!

An Update On The ThredUp Return Policy – As of May 2023

ThredUp has made yet another update!

In the past, making a return on ThredUp was pretty straightforward. If you had something to return, they would give you a label to print and give you a refund to your original form of payment. There was also a small relisting fee they took out.

With the new ThredUp return policy update, if you return an item, you’re given the option of getting an IMMEDIATE ThredUp shopping credit (slightly less than what you paid)  and you can KEEP the item. Seems like a great deal, however, the shopping credit will expire in 14 days.screenshot of thredup app and new return policy that lets you keep your reutrn in exchange for store credit

So if you have a constant rotation of ThredUp orders showing up on our doorstep – and don’t mind losing a few dollars – the new return policy might be perfect for you!

I imagine they added this option to cut back on so many returns. And how many times have you ALMOST loved an item and thought about making it work but sent it back instead? This would give your item a second chance and a little extra credit in your pocket.

My return choice for this order was to completely return all the items and have it go back to my original form of payment.

You know when you thrift certain clothing and it makes you grin like a goon and you become obsessed with it? That’s this oversized jumpsuit for me. (As seen in my latest thredUP thrift haul)

It kind of goes against what fashion dictates that we wear.

It’s oversized. Unflattering. And, frankly, it’s ugly.

I think I like it so much because I’m not supposed to be wearing it. But I, for one, will always champion for clothing that is comfortable & practical.

Do you have something, or more than one something, like this in your closet that you love?

    An Outfit Inspired By Halloween

For the inaugural wear of this thrifted oversized black jumpsuit, I leaned into the Halloween vibes.

I wore a striped, long-sleeve shirt underneath, a black wide-brim fedora, cat eye sunglasses, and black ballet flats.

I could be a part-time witch or Indiana Jones’ cool niece. (Harrison Ford, call me!)

    Making Unflattering Clothes Look Better

The natural shape of this jumpsuit is actually really shapeless. It just kind of exists somewhere in time and space. I like that it can make people question whether I really have a body or not.

For the sake of this fit, I chose to wear a belt to give myself a little shape.

The one I chose is a fun, elasticized piece that has a big circular buckle. It helped to continue the theme of being comfortable without constriction. I love ’80s clothes for that! They were really on to something!

I teased in my last thrift haul post that April was unlucky for me but May would be better. It totally is! Only one item got sent back and I’m so excited about what I kept. (And the month isn’t even over yet!)

I think my bad luck with any online purchase really just comes down to the perils of online shopping in itself!

While I’m always very selective and carefully comb through the thredUP website, mistakes happen. You can’t always trust the sizing, or measurements, or feel the material in your hands. That’s when you end up with faulty purchases.

But the thrift gods were on my side in May and almost everything I bought was exactly what I was looking for.. and has already been worn a good handful of times – that’s saying a lot!

Check out what I bought below and how I styled it.

If you’re in the US and you’ve never used thredUP before, feel free to use my affiliate code to sign-up. I’ll get a $10 credit when you make your first purchase. (Which I’ll use to make more hauls like this with. haha) It’s a win-win!

    Home Alone Graphic T-shirt

Christmas came early! I actually bought my sister a Home Alone sweatshirt on thredUP for Christmas and felt a twinge of jealousy as I handed it over.

But now I’ve got my own Wet Bandits tee to wear during the holidays.. or right now. 🙂

hannah smiles mischievously while wearing a gray home along t-shirt, red cardigan, and blue pants

    Pink Raincoat

I finally found a pink raincoat after a close call with one in my February thredUP thrift haul! I knew if I was patient that the right one would come along.

This has all the features that I like – a hood, zipper, and pockets. Plus it’s generously sized so I can slip a hoodie or thick sweater underneath without feeling stuffed.

hannah's smiling and looking down in a polka dot dress and pink rain coat

    Lime Green T-shirt

Was a lime green t-shirt on my thrifting wishlist? Not at all. But it popped up in one of my searches and the brightness appealed to me. How great does it look with this rainbow cardigan? I thrifted that earlier this year for under $5 at a consignment store. They’re a great match!

hannah is smiling in a lime green t-shirt, rainbow cardigan, and blue jeans

    Yellow Raincoat

Two raincoats in one haul?! Spring weather is not gonna be able to handle all my cuteness!

I appreciate having a variety of colorful raincoats now to wear on dreary days. This one brightened up a recent doctor’s appointment I had. I love when my clothes can have a positive impact on others!

    A thredUP Thrift Haul

If shopping on thredUP is wrong then I don’t want to be right!

I’m back this month with another thrift haul from thredUP. And if you don’t know, thredUP is the largest online consignment and thrift store. I’m a frequent shopper, as evidenced by my past blog posts, and have gotten into the habit of sharing what I buy from them every month.

Because everything is done online, I never know how things will actually look once I get them. So these hauls are my very real, honest thoughts about what I receive. The good, the bad, and the weird.

This month I kept about half of what I bought. Here’s a look! Let me know what you think!

    [su_note note_color=”#FFFFFF” text_color=”#000000″ radius=”9″ class=””]

    [/su_note]

    Neon Hoodie

A yellow zip-up hoodie is on my thrifting wishlist and I swear it’s more elusive than Bigfoot! So this isn’t the first time I’ve tried to find one of thredUP (I have a Saved Search for one in the app) but I didn’t love what I got.

It’s super neon, almost lime green. I had a feeling that might happen. I could also nitpick the fit but because I sent it back, I won’t. ☺

    Pink Skirt

I bought this skirt to replace an old one (it was polyester and I’m trying to phase that out of my closet) and I’m pretty happy with the purchase so far! It had new tags and the material is much more suited to every day. Plus, how great is this shade of pink with my skin tone?!

    White Keds Sneakers

I have a pair of white sneakers from Maurices, where I work, that I have worn to death. I love them but wanted something with more structure to support my feet. (Oh geez.. is that what old people say?!)

These white Keds sneakers popped up in my price range and looked pretty good, aside from some light wear. They’re exactly what I was looking for! Plus you can’t top $25!!

    Coral Pink Moto Jacket

I’m just gonna rip this off like a bandaid – this pink moto jacket got returned. 😥

It’s not the exact shade of pink that I want and the arms were comically short. (I do have long, lanky arms so I’m used to it.) I couldn’t tell if it was coral or bubblegum pink so I took a chance… and it was coral. Not the worst color on me, but it doesn’t match the color story I’m building in my closet so it wouldn’t get a lot of wear. I’m sure there’s someone out there who will love it more than me!

    Red Beret

I’m ending on a good note – this red beret! It’s a keeper!!!

I’ve had one on my thrifting wishlist and just when I was ready to throw in the towel and buy a cheap one from Amazon, this popped up on thredUP. Thank you, thrift gods!!

It’s literally everything I’ve ever wanted in a red beret and I’m so excited to have it in my closet!

    What I Bought From thredUP

Do you ever buy something online and it ends up looking different in person? It happens to me all the time! And as a secondhand shopper, it’s none more important to share the ups and downs of ordering a one-of-a-kind item only to find out it’s a dud.

I’m a thredUP partner so every month I get a little shopping credit. Even without the incentive, I’m a huge fan of the online consignment store and have bought and sold clothes on there for many years. Sometimes I really score and other times I’m disappointed.

I ordered 4 items this month and 3 got sent back. Let’s dive into what happened and get a little outfit inspiration!

    [irp]

    “The Cardigan”

If you follow me on TikTok, you might remember “The Cardigan” struggle I went through earlier in the month.

To summarize the debacle, I thought this cardigan was tan and bought it to replace a tan cardigan. It arrived and was actually pink but I didn’t need a pink cardigan because I have like 3. So do I keep it or not?!?!

Y’all jumped in the comments with so many creative ideas from upcycling it, to dying it, to holding on to it to see how I felt.

In the end, Goodwill of SCWI noticed something I had not – this “not tan” cardigan had POCKETS and my current pink cardigans did not! It was a no-brainer then to keep the new “not tan” cardigan. And I’ve already worn it quite a few times to lounge around in so I’d say it was a good call!

    [su_note note_color=”#FFFFFF” text_color=”#000000″ radius=”9″ class=””]

TIP: New thredUP customers can get $10 off first order. Click here to redeem!

    [/su_note]

    Pink Raincoat

I wanted to love this raincoat. It was PINK, with pockets, a hood, a long length, and a zipper.. literally all my coat requirements.

But the more times I tried it on to test out around my house, the more I didn’t like it. The fabric was incredibly thin which wouldn’t help if there was cold rain (which most are). But what sealed its fate was the strange arm bands on the biceps. They’re a really tight elastic and seemed.. unnecessary?!

My mom suggested snipping the elastic out but we were both certain that would alter the shape of the arm and leave a strange outline.

In the end, I decided to send it back and let someone with smaller arms enjoy it.

    Pink Mini Dress

I’m sure by the headline “pink mini dress” you can already guess how I felt about this. I do NOT like mini clothes! But the measurement online made it seem appropriate so I gave it a go.

Aside from the short length, the wide silhouette didn’t seem very flattering on me. I felt like I was swimming in fabric!

But I will say the color is DIVINE and I think it works well on other people. My Instagram friend @staygoldengirl has it and looks adorable! Alas, it’s not for me.

    Pink Trousers

Now for the most disappointing buy of all…

At a glance, these pants fit my requirements – the right rise, inseam, and color.

After they arrived and I was pulling them out of the package, I immediately noticed dark gray streaks all over the hems. I didn’t remember any damage being noted in the description so I checked it and sure enough, they were described as “good condition, like new.”

Apparently, somebody didn’t inspect them close enough because I zoomed in closer in the photos and noticed the stains were visible online. (I never zoom in because I take thredUP’s word that something is in good condition. I’ll know better next time.)

I’m not quite sure what the stain was. It kind of looked like an ink transfer. But I didn’t want to mess with it and make it any worse. (I recently shared all my thrifted laundry disasters on my IG Stories. Needless to say, I don’t like “project” clothes.)

I also wasn’t impressed with the fit of the pants so it was no skin off my back to return them.

    ///

I have another thredUP order already on the way and keeping my fingers crossed that I love everything. But what will be the odds of that?! lol

green canva image for the outfit repeater hannah rupp wearing green outfit and words What I Bought From thredUP vs. How It Actually Looks A thredUP Thrift Haul

I’m back with yet another thrift haul from thredUP! This type of post is kind of becoming my unofficial thrift haul that I used to present as videos every month. I hope that’s ok with you!

So to back up, thredUP is the largest online consignment and thrift store. I’m obsessed!

For transparency, I am an unpaid thredUP partner that receives a monthly shopping credit to use on their website. Regardless of that, I’m a huge fan of their online store and have used it for maaaany years.

I don’t actually shop on the site every month but I’m constantly browsing and adding pieces to my “favorites”. Click here to learn more about how the thredUP app works and tips for getting the best haul!

    [irp]

But this month I made a big order and after trying everything on, I have some thoughts… 😏 Keep reading to see what I bought online and how it actually looked in person!

    Pink Sweatpants

I’ve tried a couple of pairs of pink sweatpants from thredUP in the past and they just didn’t do it for me. I finally found these and they feel like we’ll get along well for long days of working at my computer as a social media manager.

I was pleasantly surprised that the measurements underestimated how roomy these actually are. For once I didn’t mind an item being described wrong! haha

    Blue Tiered Sweatshirt Dress

I wasn’t sold on this blue dress when I saw it online, nor when I tried it on. But something just told me to buy it!

What drew me to it was the color (it’s my 2022 color, remember?!) and once I started styling it up stuff in my closet, I was hooked! It’s super soft and versatile. Those are winning traits in my book!

    Oversized Cardigan

After finding my ultimate dream cardigan in my last haul, I was set on finding it in more colors. Unfortunately, what I thought was black (as described online) ended up being totally brown. Bummer!

Aside from the color that’s already in my closet, I wasn’t loving the cocoon shape on me.

    [irp]

    Green Crochet Crossbody Bag

How fab is the color of this bag?! I’ve been looking for a tote to take to my doctors’ appointments that would make me smile.

Unfortunately, this one is too small for all my stuff. But it was a final sale item so I can’t return it. It won’t be a total loss because I’m still into it as a fun summer bag for RL thrifting trips!

    Sequin Dress

Can I hear a little commotion for the dress?

The photos online didn’t do the cap sleeves of this sequin dress justice. Unfortunately, it was inaccurately described and ended up shorter than the listed measurement. I can’t move around without it showing a little too much so I’ll have to send it back! 😭

    Bucket Hat

I jumped on the bucket hat trend last summer with a baby blue one and knew I wanted to expand my collection for the upcoming summer.

This creamy Madewell one popped up and it actually fit my tiny head. Winning!

    [irp]

    Denim High Waisted Shorts

These denim shorts looked so adorable online! But they didn’t work out in real life.

The fit was tighter than I imagined and my thighs kept eating them up! 🤣

    Patterned Dress

This was kind of a silly purchase with a long backstory. I’ll keep it brief and just let ya know that it’s too big and the polyester material drove me nuts. It’s getting returned!

    Navy Blue Jumpsuit

This navy blue jumpsuit was another Madewell buy! I didn’t have the same luck as I did with the bucket hat.

The measurements online were very inaccurate and this ended up almost 5 inches shorter than I expected! That made a big difference in how the jumpsuit fit.

To be more specific (because I know someone in the comments will tell me it “looks” fine) it hit at a weird length above my ankles and the torso was actually ridiculously long; hanging to the middle of my thighs. I’m not sure the body type it was meant for but it’s definitely not for mine.

I reeeeally want a dark palazzo jumpsuit or overalls so I guess I’ll keep looking for my perfect pair!

    Thrifting Wishlist

In true “thrift haul” fashion, I’d like to share a few things I’m currently on the secondhand hunt for! You can see the whole round-up on my thrifting wishlist Pinterest board.

the outfit repeater thrifting wishlist for january red beret, pink suit, red blazer

A red beret – I’m still working on expanding my beret collection. It’s been slow going for many years but maybe I’ll find a red one soon!

    • Red blazer – It never hurts to have more red in your closet! Red is one of my power colors so combining that with a blazer would be amazing!

    • Pink suit – Having a pink suit seems like an obvious choice for me. Especially since I’ve seen so many fashionistas rockin’ pick suits online!

    ///

This haul was hit and miss but I think had more wins than my last thredUP haul!

Like many of you, I can relate to the frustration of ordering things online only to find out they don’t work. A lot of time and money would be saved if I could just try these things on in person at a store. But that’s still a tricky situation so this option is better than nothing for when you need a fashion fix.

I hope you enjoyed this little haul! Thank you for checking it out. Let me know in the comments what your favorite item was and how you’d style it. I might just show the outcome in a future TikTok video!

  • Styling My Latest Thrift Finds

    November Thrift Haul

I’ve been having fun making quick thrift hauls on TikTok but don’t want my blog to miss out on the outfit inspo!

The pieces I styled in this post are from a couple of different thrift stops I made in November. However, I’ve also been stalking items online and shared a thredUP thrift haul on my TikTok.

    Styling My Thrift Finds

    What I Thrifted

    • Baby blue sweater vest (free) – I’ve seen sweater vests trending all season and came across this one at a community closet. It’s the exact shade of blue I’ve been crushing on lately so I thought I’d try my hand at making it work. What do you think? How else should I try styling it?

    • Artsy button-up blouse (free) – This blouse was also found at the same community closet but on a different day. I was ‘drawn’ to the abstract print and unique shape… pun intended.

    • White longline cardigan duster ($5) – I’ve had a long white cardi on my wishlist for a while and finally found this one! I wish you could all feel it through your screens because it’s made of a super soft blend. Plus it looks cute, right?!

    Thrifting Wishlist

I haven’t added to my Pinterest thrifting wishlist in a while but my personal list that I keep on my phone just keeps growing! Here’s what I’m currently on the hunt for…

thrifting wishlist november 2021 hannah rupp the outfit repeater

    • White high-waisted denim gauchos – I think this is another purchase that I want to make after seeing so many girls on the gram make them look glam! Plus I’m still trying to get away from skinny jeans so this would be a great departure.

    • Green pullover sweater – I have so many outfit ideas using a kelly green sweater. Wish me luck finding one!

    • Athletic leggings – I started wearing leg compression garments earlier this year after getting diagnosed with POTS. They’re not always cute so members of a POTS support group that I’m in suggested workout leggings. I’m too cheap to pay full price so hopefully I can thrift some NWT!

My thrifting wishlist is really getting whittled down but then new fashion trends come along that I start lusting over and the cycle begins all over again. Here are some current looks I’m hoping to score secondhand!

    • Voluminous denim – Like most people, skinny jeans are feeling pretty boring at this point. I want some shape to my denim that can make my outfit a statement with very little work!

White blouse – I’ve been keeping a keen eye out for a white blouse with unique details. I’m ready to step up my plain white t-shirt game!

    • Bright green high waisted pants – I recently found the red palazzo pants of my dreams, so why not aim for every color of the rainbow? Green is next on my list to thrift!

(Psst.. it pays to watch it, too! There’s a cool discount code just for you. 😃)

Not all online second hand marketplaces are created equal.

With so many platforms to choose from, it’s hard to tell where the best place to stretch your dollar is, how can you get the biggest deal, and what are signs of a trustworthy seller.

In this post I’m going to explore Poshmark and Depop – arguably two of the biggest online resell apps where people like you and me can sell our unwanted stuff – and check out their major differences when it comes to making a purchase on them.

    Let’s dive in!
