What I Wore as a BRIDESMAID!

A Fall Family Wedding

OMG, now my sister got married! On the cusp of my brother tying the knot last month (and my fun thrifted wedding guest dress), now my older sister has gone and done the same.

Weddings are typically a summer event but I guess my family prefers the fall!

For my sister’s nuptials, I was chosen as the maid-of-honor/bridesmaid/witness, which are all roles I’ve never been in and never thought I would be. I lucked out that it was a super tiny wedding and I am the closest person to my sis.

My Purple Bridesmaid Dress

I had a year-long heads up that I was going to be participating and immediately began a purple dress search at thrift stores, on thredUP, Poshmark, friends’ closets, and every wedding or online retail store you can imagine; and with just weeks to spare, still had nothing to show for it. In a desperate feat, I just bought something off of Amazon that vaguely resembled my ideal dress.

Y’all, I hate this dress. I don’t even want to link it. It’s not my dream cut, color, or style. Buuuut the day was about my sister and HER dress was magical, like straight from a fairytale. I was happy to let her shine on the big day!

You might notice my necklace is repeated from my brother’s wedding. It’s a gift from my late great-grandma. I wanted to make sure she was part of the celebration!

And my shoes and these photos are both courtesy of my brother’s new wife. Basically, everything is a family affair! haha

What Happened At The Wedding

The day went off without a hitch (no pun intended) and was the perfect union of my sister and her new husband’s personalities.

There were details all over the event space that was a reminder of the couple like a Smurf cake topper and the DIY taco bar. It was a truly one-of-a-kind wedding!

I don’t normally divulge a lot of personal details online, especially regarding my family, but I have posted about my big brother, Ethan, in many videos and blog posts in the past and often get requests to share more of him. So here’s some photos of the two of us; we’re pretty sure he’s shrinking. 🤣

Wedding Dress Advice

I’ve shared advice and inspiration before about finding an outfit as a wedding guest but this role as a MOH left me stumped. I did everything you’re supposed to do and it still didn’t work for me.

Regardless when it comes to buying a wedding outfit, try thrift stores and online secondhand marketplaces, ask your friends if they have something you can borrow from their closet, use an inspo pic and reverse Google Image search, and be open to ALL retail stores and niche boutiques.

But if none of that works and you still don’t have a dress (oh, and did I mention my shoes got lost in the mail??) then default to Amazon. It’s a crummy corporate giant but it came through with 2-day Prime shipping when nowhere else did!!

2 Ways To Wear a Jumpsuit on Thanksgiving

Holiday Helper

An outfit repeaters secret weapon around the holidays are special clothes that can be reworn for all the different gatherings you’re likely going to. Even better if you can move around in it, eat in it, and sleep in it! (I’ll be doing plenty of that!)

This playful striped number jumped out at me on the ASOS website and I knew it’d be perfect to style for Thanksgiving and beyond.

For look number two, I kept things casual by pairing my ASOS jumpsuit with flats, a basic cardigan, and a statement necklace that perfectly filled in the neckline. I can see myself wearing this for some holiday shopping.. if I can move after I eat turkey with the fixin’s.

3 Ways To Wear a Blanket Scarf This Fall

The Blanket Scarf

Wearing a blanket scarf is as easy as 1-2-3! I know this piece of fabric wrapped around your neck can seem intimidating but I promise it’s not as difficult as it looks and you’ll soon grow to love the warmth and functionality of a blanket scarf!

To help you out, I styled a blanket scarf 3 different ways to give you plenty of inspiration. Be sure to let me know in the comments which one is your favorite!

Every girl should be able to recreate this look in their closet. All you need is a plain top, classic denim jacket, colored jeggings (like mine from Maurices!), and booties. Wrapping a plaid blanket scarf around your neck really makes this look something special and so quintessentially fall!

This outfit is not for the faint of color! I draped the scarf over my shoulders to add a pattern to what was already a very bright ensemble. The duo formerly of What Not To Wear would likely approve of my use of “color, pattern, texture, and shine.”

My favorite outfit of all three is this one with a witty graphic tee, dark brown corduroy skirt, and platform shoes. I love the throwback vibes and the scarf casually hung around my neck creates an extra layer of fun to it!

A Day In My Life Through Fashion: From Event Hosting to Errands!

I don’t have many occasions that require me to change outfits throughout the day but Saturday was one of those rare times for me.

From Event Hosting to Running Errands

I got to host my own program at the Monroe Public Library that was all about thrifting and then run errands in the afternoon. Bloggers, they’re just like us!

It was my first public speaking situation and my first time acting as a hostess with the mostest for a community gathering!

My outfit was carefully chosen to express my excitement for the day. I wore the dress as-is with high heels for hosting and then changed into a white denim jacket & flip flops for grocery shopping. Nothing like an outfit that can pull double duty!

But let’s chat more about the program! It was such a fulfilling day and I want to share as much as I can from it.

The Hostess With The Mostest

I was nervous beforehand of who would be there but was pleasantly surprised to recognize all but two faces.

The intimate crowd was preferable because that way it allowed us to have some great conversations about thrifting without much pressure, which was a highlight for me.

Step By Step

Planning the program was fun but there were a few times where I felt a bit like a Bridezilla with my demands. Luckily everything came together and the decor was colorful, the crowd was enthusiastic, and the slideshow went off without a hitch.

So I guess it was like a wedding to me?! lol

Something Old, Something New

I had originally bought this dress last summer, at the last minute, for a family wedding. Unbeknownst to me, the bridesmaids wore dresses in the exact same of fuchsia. Thankfully I was a family member or else I would have felt really embaressed!

Since then, this dress has sat in my closet, only appearing once in an Instagram picture last summer.

Back To The Fuchsia

I decided to breathe new life into this dress because I really had intended to use it for other weddings and special occasions but none have really come up. Until Easter…

My styling is similar to the previous look except this time my hair is longer so going for that mod-look with big floral stud earrings just didn’t work. Instead I wore the same shoes and threw on a bright cardigan to make the color pop (as if it wasn’t already! 😂) and vintage bangles that were gifted to me from my late great-grandmother.

It feels really special wearing these bangles as most of my early Easter memories took place at my great grandma’s house and since she’s no longer with us, these bangles are like having a part of her join us for our celebration.

An Eggs-cellent Outfit

I’m actually kind of glad I didn’t buy a new dress because then I would have missed out on wearing this pretty pink number! Do you re-wear your “special” occasion pieces or are you more of a one-and-done kind of person?

Two Ways to Wear Denim Overalls for Spring

By far one of the most popular items in my February thrift haul were these light-wash denim overalls. I could have only dreamed of thrifting them yet I did it! They’re real!

Needless to say, I’ve been loving them just as much as I thought would. So much so that I couldn’t decide how to style them first so you get to see them in two different outfits for this post!

My first outfit is a super sweet combo of a airy, floral kimono and strappy yellow heels for spring. I felt very cute as evidenced by my smile in these photos.

Tough Love

For my second look with the denim overalls, I went in a completely different direction and styled them with some edge.

This was achieved by wearing a moto jacket I bought on thredUP, tying a plaid button-up around my waist, and sporting sparkly silver sneakers. I even broke out some red lipstick because it’s been missing from my outfit posts from awhile. For shame!

My second accessory is this classy black quilted purse. It was carefully stuffed with on-brand red tissue paper to hold it’s shape which was such a nice touch.

Sarah and Karen totally blew my mind this month! They sent along this outrageous sequin blazer that I just can get enough of.

Naturally I styled it like I was going to the hottest concert of the ’80s with a rad Guns’n’Roses sweatshirt and a single blinged out ear cuff. I kept it modern with skinny jeans and these chunky platform heels, then topped it off with the quilted clutch they also sent along.

Galentine’s Day? Oh it’s only the best day of the year. Here’s what I’m wearing for it!

What is Galentine’s Day?

No, I did not misspell “Valentine’s” day. Galentine’s Day is a holiday popularized by Leslie Knope on the t.v. show Parks and Recreation. She used February 13th as a day to celebrate her female friendships.

It’s become quite a phenomena on the internet and, since my blog is currently taking part in the #MoreThanEnough campaign, it felt fitting to post a Galentine’s Day outfit idea in case you decide to observe it this year.

One Of The Girls

While I do have a Valentine’s Day outfit coming up next week, I found there was a slight difference between what I’d wear for a date and what I’d wear for hanging out with my friends.

First and foremost you should feel your best in either outfit but I found that for Galentine’s Day, I wanted to dress more adventurous. I normally like to push my creative boundaries when I know I’ll be around people who understand & appreciate my unique style. This holiday was ideal for doing just that!

With that in mind, I was excited to wear this romper I picked up a couple months ago on Swap.com. It’s so perfect I can’t even describe it! It’s better off being seen than being written about.

I could have taken the styling in a million directions but decided to be the most obnoxious that I could be so I wore it with bright purple tights, a silver sequin bag, and these statement earrings that I’ve had for forever.

Since my last thrift haul of 2017, I’ve already gotten out and thrifted a few things – one being this new-to-me striped crop top that I picked up at a community closet for free.

I have a hard time seeing red stripes as anything but Where’s Waldo? so I tried my hand at making the shirt look chic. Let’s see how I did that!

What’s My Line?

I am a huge fan of bold stripes which is why I picked up this shirt in the first place. While it would look smashing with another pattern, I took it easy for this outfit and decided to play around with it’s color.

What I came up with in this outfit! The color palette of pale red, with crimson tights, and a tan suede skirt just compliment each other really nicely. Anyone else getting some chic 1970s vibes?

And it’s funny because one of the last times I wore this skirt on my blog, I also wore it with a striped crop top!

Better Off Red

Some other colors I considered from my closet to match this crop top were pales blues and heather gray. I guess I’ll have to revisit it in the spring to style it up again!

I kicked off my festivities in this sequined number that I bought from the online secondhand retailer Swap.com. Layered with a black turtleneck, black We Love Colors tights, and comfy heels, this outfit served me well as I played board games and sipped from a disco ball shaped tumbler.

Wearing Sequins for Everyday

Besides the obvious of not wanting my clothes to go unworn (I love all my clothes!), there are a few other benefits to rewearing sequins for everyday. One is that is just makes the day more fun! Every outing feels a little fancier because you’re shining like the star you are. 🌟

More specifically to this dress, I wore it for New Years Eve so it holds memories of that night and the optimism that I had going into the new year. While that optimism fades with time as the year unveils some crappy traits, I’d like to think that wearing this dress in the future will remind me of that hope & positive life I wished for myself.

I wore it with a white tee underneath, a cool looking moto jacket on top, and jeans to make it extra casual. I’m ready to rock in the new year!

Beyond Sequins
