Who doesn’t dream of getting dressed up for a night out at a Broadway show or taking part in a gala or award ceremony?!

Well, here’s your chance to support the local arts AND wear your fanciest frocks!

Being from the Midwest, those opportunities are few and far between, so I’m excited to share one coming up that I think many of you will be interested in!

The Monroe Theater Guild will be hosting a special Open House and gala with the theme “A Night on Broadway.” All are invited to attend and, of course, encouraged to dress up.

I’m currently costuming my second play with MTG, so I dug through the costume closet to pull out five outfit ideas you might want to recreate for the big event.

Keep reading to learn more and get inspired!

What Is The Monroe Theater Guild?

Before I share the gala outfits, I want to back up and tell you a little more about the Monroe Theater Guild.

The Monroe Theater Guild is a theater company local to Monroe, Wisconsin, that was started in 1970. It regularly delivers seasonal shows to the region, including musicals, dramas, comedies, and everything in between. There are also classes, special events (like the gala!), and the space is available to rent for your own private gatherings.

I have personally been involved sporadically since I was younger, acting in shows here and there, then took a long break and am back using my talents in the costume department!

The Monroe Theater Guild is a huge asset to Monroe and the surrounding areas. It’s a creative outlet, a platform for important issues, a thriving space for the arts, and a great place to meet the most interesting people!

5 Vintage Inspired Gala Outfit Ideas

The costume closet at the Monroe Theater Guild is filled to the brim with decades of the most amazing vintage clothes. As a fashion lover, I’m like a kid in a candy store when I walk through those doors.

I channeled all that excitement into pulling looks that felt like they could be worn to an award show, especially the Tonys. There are a lot of fabulous archival photos to be found online, and I found myself drawn to many looks worn by entertainers in the 1970s and 1980s.

Funny enough, Carol Channing came up over and over again while I was building my mood board. Her sparkles and sass left me inspired!

Hopefully, these looks get your creative gears turning, and you can pull out something similar from your closet or visit a thrift store to buy something totally unique!

Learn More & Get The Hottest Ticket In Town

Now all that’s left to do is RSVP on the Monroe Theater Guild website and get your outfit together!

You won’t want to miss this behind-the-scenes experience, including a silent auction, games, and prizes. It will be a great free community building event!

Let them know you’re coming, and I hope to see you there!

November is that weird time when we’re living post-Halloween, expectant of a big turkey dinner (if you’re in the US) and half the world is already decorating for Christmas.

What do you wear for such an in-between time? Is it too soon for an ugly Christmas Sweater? Is it too late to wear black and orange?

    Enter: plaid pants.

Plaid pants are my solution for having something vaguely festive, still a little spooky, and definitely only in style if you’re Avril Lavigne in 2004.

My red plaid pants were thrifted during an epic thrift excursion with some of my family last year.

I’ve had them on my thrifting wishlist for many years and was excited to find them. I’ve since worn them with graphic tees, sweaters, sweatshirts, and every top in between.

I styled them up recently for an outing with a friend and liked the outfit so much that I wanted to snap a photo (or like 40) and break the look down for you. Let’s dig in!

How I Wore My Thrifted Plaid Pants

My outfit actually started off as a simple jeans and an X-Files graphic tee combo. But I was feeling drawn to this unworn red blazer in my closet (this is its inaugural wear on the blog, please say hi 👋)

Once I added such a big pop of color, it only seemed right to keep adding more. So I added my red thrifted plaid pants and red ballet flats.. and then a red headband because, why not?!

My friend that I met up with is very used to my “interesting” outfit choices so it felt like an OK time to experiment! We ended up at a thrift store where I even got a few compliments from strangers. Winning!

The Truth About My Thrifted Plaid Pants

What do you think of this outfit? How should I restyle these plaid pants for the holiday season? I’d love to do a mini lookbook blog post using them!

    Bold Beginnings

I’m no stranger to pattern mixing in my outfits but leopard print tights felt like a big leap for me. It’s so much pattern in a place where I don’t normally wear patterns!

But like with my floral shorts this past summer, I wore these tights around my house with an LBD many times getting used to seeing my legs all covered in animal print. I guess it worked because here I am!

    Animal Instincts

The original picture that inspired me to buy these tights was an outfit comprised of black high waisted shorts and a fun graphic tee. Clearly I went in a different direction!

I went with this green dress I picked up in my November thrift haul video and added this brocade blazer (another recently thrifted piece) on top. All together I felt like the look perfectly tied together the fall + winter seasons. The colors and textures make it a little bit of both and I’m digging it!

I always have fun when I go outside my clothing comfort zone and I’m so glad I finally put these tights to good use! Let me know on my Facebook page what’s one item you’re afraid of styling. Hopefully it won’t take you 4 years to try it out! 😉

This Is What My Birthday Suit Looks Like

hannah rupp the outfit repeater birthday suit vintage thrifted

This outfit is a far cry from my polka dot dress and cardigan I was originally planning to wear on my birthday. But I woke up last Friday, watched a Cyndi Lauper music video, and suddenly knew what to wear.

I’ve always kept a little Cyndi Lauper quote in the back of my head since I was a young kid and it had to do with her ever changing style. Every time she wore something, people would copy her, and all she wanted to do was be original so she constantly had to out-crazy herself, so to speak.

Whether I’m getting dressed or working on something creative, I always think of what my stamp is I can put on it to make it my own. That’s even more so important on the internets where copying can be just too easy!

So in conclusion, I broke out my tackiest 80’s blazer and faced my day in my birthday suit because why not?

This Is How To Wear Winter Whites

hannah rupp the outfit repeater winter whites style fashionI’m trying to hurry and wear my “winter whites” while it’s still winter. (Which is dumb to say because it’s been snowing all day with no spring in sight.) I don’t know if throwing a colorless blazer on with an outfit counts but I sure hope so.

Also, I’d love your opinions for what kind of “suit” this is. You know how denim-on-denim is a Canadian tuxedo. What would you call this liquid-leggings-chambray-blazer dealio? Best comments gets a prize! (The prize will be my laughter.)
