Tom Selleck called, he wants his Hawaiian print shirt back. Too bad I’m busy wearing it for this outfit post!
According to the internet, summer is over. While I’m not a fan of the excessive heat, I am bummed out that I’ll have to retire my summer clothes. (I just love clothes, you guys!) A Hawaiian print shirt just SCREAMS summer to me so why not wear it to celebrate the end of the season?
This jazzy little number, along with my purse, was thrifted for me by my friend Katie of Thrift Your Heart Out. (Remember the denim jumper she had also thrifted for me? She’s seriously the stuff that thrifting legends are made of!)
I was honestly intimated when I first saw the shirt. Yes, even blue haired people are scared of things.
My mind flashed to images of Cyndi Lauper in the ’80s – perhaps during a performance or just standing around being awesome – and I knew I wanted to channel that energy into my outfit. So I threw on a bunch of colors and then grounded the outfit with wardrobe staples like my high waisted denim jeans, black flats, and my all-time favorite pork pie hat.
It’s important to note that you don’t have to take clothes at face value. Had I worn this shirt exactly as-is with a pair of cargo shorts, I easily could have blended in with a pack of tourists. But I chose to roll-up and tie-up this shirt to give it a more distinct look. Don’t be afraid to customize your clothes. That’s exactly how you gain personal style!
While I think this shirt is better suited for a luau, I did manage to wear it to run some errands. I felt like a party on-the-go! How many clothes can give you that feeling?
I hope you get out and soak up every minute of the sun before pumpkin spice invades our life. Whether you do it in a Hawaiian print shirt or a white cotton t-shirt, just get out and have some last minute summer fun!
