Hey, it’s winter, why not rock a crop top?
This 1983 Ocean Pacific sweatshirt has survived many a closet cleanouts performed by me in the last year. Fashion magazines usually dole out the advice that you should get rid of something if you haven’t worn it in a year (or don’t even buy it if you have nothing it matches!!), but I think I know myself and my clothing habits a little better than they do. (This is more my clean-out method.)
After hanging in the back of my closet for a year (more so because my closet is organized by color and black is in the back) I knew I finally had the pieces to put together the perfect outfit with this sweatshirt.
With any crop top, regardless of the season, the easy way to wear one is with a high waisted skirt or pant.
These high waisted jeans were on my thrifting wish list for a long time because I saw them as a great wardrobe staple that had a little vintage vibe to them. (The shoes were there too! You might remember them from my thrift haul video last week.) I imagined wearing the jeans with graphic tees on casual days and button-up tops & hair scarfs when I wanted to kick my outfit up to retro. (Incidentally, I’ve worn them with a sweet leopard print cardigan in a previous post which I think qualifies as “retro”.)
Another way to wear a crop top if you don’t own anything high waisted? Slide one over the top of a dress for a completely different look. Or do the other thing I did in this post and throw a vest or jacket over it and you’d never know it was cropped!
I firmly believe that whatever clothing you have your eye set on, there is a way to wear it that will fit with your life and your body type. Some pieces just take a little more imagination than others.. but you’ll get there!
I’ve been rockin’ crop tops since my plus-size days but I have to say this is the first time I’ve worn one in the winter. It does help that it’s longsleeved but that’s not a problem that creatively adding layers from your closet can’t fix. 😉
Does the idea of wearing a crop top in winter make you shiver or do you think it’s a hot look (especially how I laid out a solution here)?

You are fabulous. I absolutely love this post! The crop top in the winter idea is awesome and I love it especially with the high waisted jeans.
