Why did I make a Care Bear eye mask? I just felt like it.

My Inspiration

The real inspiration behind this Care Bear sleeping eye mask came during one of my nap sessions. I take a lot of them to manage my chronic fatigue and I figured if I’m going to sleep all the time, why not do it with style?

I’ve always loved wearing cute sleeping eye masks but have trouble finding them. One day when I was laying in bed, surrounded by my favorite yellow Funshine Care Bear, it struck me that it would be so fun to have a Care Bear eye mask! I searched high and low online but couldn’t find one so I put my crafting cap on and came up with my own design. Best of all, this can be customized to your favorite Care Bear character. Mine just happens to be Funshine!

If you’re afraid of sewing, don’t sweat it. I’m definitely a novice and just took my time to get all the stitches somewhat lined up. Believe me, this mask ain’t perfect but it’s adorable-ness trumps everything. lol

(Please note: To fill in the eyes, I used a back stitch and a satin stitch. The outer edge of the mask was secured using a hemming stitch. And the ears, elastic, and eyes were attached with a simple running stitch. These are open to your interpretation and skill level.)

In total this project took me about 3 hours to complete. By the time I was done, I needed a nap so I slipped it on and it held up perfectly while still blocking out light!

Don’t forget to #ShareYourCare this Sunday, September 19th. Use the hashtag on social media to inspire acts of kindness, both big and small. It’s what the Care Bears would want!
