This outfit post is off the shoulders hook!
I’m not really a “trend” person but I’m a big fashion magazine geek so I try to keep up with what’s happening. Off-the-shoulder garments are so big right now and it made me really curious. How does the shirt stay up? Are they comfortable? Do I have to have special shoulders? Etc, etc.
I did some thrifting this past weekend and found this top for $1 and knew it was my chance to answer all my burning questions. Read on for my opinions!
First of all, this bouncy, vintage, red top felt so reminiscent of Carmen Miranda. If you put a fruit bowl on my head I’d be all set for a Chiquita Banana commercial!
I styled my outfit to reflect that fun vibe and celebrate the first day of summer. This floral skirt and platform high heels definitely kept this outfit in the 21st century!
As for the top itself, the elastic is very tight, even after all these years. I actually found myself pulling it down for the perfect off the shoulder look. I honestly expected it to fall down! This particular top also had elasticized sleeves which don’t work for my arms and they also kept creeping up. That could be fixed by cutting the sleeves but I don’t have the heart to cut up beautiful vintage. 😞
But that’s the fun of thrifting a trend for $1. You can live and learn and figure out what you like before committing to a more expensive version. I would definitely invest in this trend now that I’ve tried it. I wasn’t sure if my shoulders were cut out for it but I guess so! I’ve always been self-conscious of a hunch back I have but it didn’t really matter when I felt this cute!
Have you tried this trend? Or is there another trend you thrifted before committing to? Let me know how it went in the comments!
And because it’s National Selfie Day, here’s a behind-the-scenes mug from when I was taking these outfit photos. All them ~~summer vibes~*
