Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned style blogger, you know that taking outfit photos is weird. What do you do with your hands, where do you look, does it count as a photobomb if it’s only a squirrel?
After many years, I’ve learned a thing or two and today I’m gonna share my tips and tricks to help you look your best in your next set of pictures!
Don’t pose weird.
Do keep your eyes open.
You can sleep when you’re dead.
Don’t hide behind your hands.
Show off your beautiful face!
Don’t let the cold get to you.
Think of warm thoughts when it’s cold outside to get the most natural expression.
Don’t let the wind win!
Use it as your personal wind machine making you look like a goddess.
Do make sure the camera is in focus.
Never post blurry pics or ones you weren’t ready for. (unless it’s artsy, then it’s cool!)
Do keep your camera remote hidden.
Keep the illusion up that somebody is taking your picture.
Do forcefully stare down strangers watching you.
Silently alert let them that what they’re doing is not ok. Don’t do this while the camera is taking your picture.
Don’t look like you’re gonna murder someone.
Try to look relaxed and happy.
Don’t adjust your clothing while the camera is on.
Wait between shots to beautify yourself.
Don’t burp while taking a picture.
It just ain’t classy.
Do take precautions to protect yourself from bugs, weather, and the elements.
But don’t do it in a way that distracts from your outfit.
Do keep your hands and feet inside the photo.
(again, the only exception is if it’s in the name of being artsy.)
Don’t work with dramatic accessories.
They will try to steal your spotlight.
Don’t pose like this. Ever.
The I’m-pooping-in-nature look doesn’t look good on anybody.
What golden rules you follow when taking outfit pictures?
I loved this post! I’m a new blogger with a focus on fashion, and I can totally relate to this! I can’t help my awkwardness haha. Thanks for making me smile! 🙂

Gah that yellow sweater with the polka dot collar! I NEED IT IN MY LIFE, remember my offer to live in my pocket? Yeah, when is that happening?? We dress kind of similar! A mish mosh of preppy, quirky, vintage although I’d argue yours is more retro 🙂 As you are a reincarnation of an 80s valley girl or my girl Molly RIngwald. As always, great post! Much love from the east coast.

lol cute tips. I tried to avoid taking pictures outside for the sole purpose of strangers look at me like I’m crazy. This year I set a blog goal to throw all that out and just go for it and that result is my most resent post which I’m so fond of!
This is really helpful (and funny)! 🙂
haha this was a hilariously helpful post. I’m absolutely guilty of a few of these. I love that you shoot outfit photos outside. I know they make for a better photograph, but I’m so shy and self conscious about setting up the old tripod and going further than my balcony haha. Maybe sometime this year I’ll get my badge of courage!
Super funny way to see how tos on taking pictures. 🙂

Oh sometimes I am doing those “No” thingies for fun. Funny post tho, and I would recommend sticking with the “Yes” category most of the time.
